hoz 0 Posted September 21, 2007 Wrong forum, moving to TS. Try searching before posting, I'm sure you will find lots of info on 8800. Hoz
december 0 Posted September 21, 2007 Thanks, wasn't sure which forum was best. Was really more interested in 2900 given the problems with 8800. I would still like to hear if anyone is using it.
BLSmith2112 0 Posted September 21, 2007 I guess 2900 if you only play arma. I've got an 8800... and I can't play arma anymore... no drivers (for me) worked, beta or not. Oh if you've got Vista too.. not a fat chance in hell you'll be playing arma anytime soon. Excuse my language, but I'm out of some money because of this, and frankly I'm not a happy camper. I say stick with what you got, or get a 7900 nvidia and wait for SP2 Vista + Nvidia 190.xx drivers heh.
kingnl 0 Posted September 21, 2007 I've got Vista Ultimate 64bit with a geforce 8800 GTS 320 mb and I don't have any real problems at all. The only thing that bugs me sometimes is the LOD bug. Arma and the Nvidia drivers aren't fully optimised yet for virtual memory in vista. With LOD I mean, sometimes when you turn around you see the low LOD (level of detail) texture of a building which plops to the high LOD texture after a few seconds. But I don't have that often. Anyway Arma runs fine. I use the latest drivers of Nvidia 163.xx(?) and only have an AMD athlon 64 X2 3800+ with 2048 mb dual channel (633mhz?) of ram. So i'm a happy user as long BIS and Nvidia do something to definitely fix the LOD bug.
456820 0 Posted September 21, 2007 I have an 8800 GTS 640mb and have no problems what so ever and I am loving the card, I run ArmA all on high settings with great fps.
kklownboy 43 Posted September 21, 2007 I know it's not as good a card but maybe there are no driver issues, anyone? its not as "fast" (2900xt) but its as good. I run two in CF. There are driver issues with the latest (7.9) and some earlier versions (7.3). But with the 7.8s its great. If your screen resolution is 1280/1024 or less a single 2900xt will run Arma fine ( subjective i know).
-duke- 0 Posted September 21, 2007 I have an 8800 GTS 640mb and have no problems what so ever and I am loving the card, I run ArmA all on high settings with great fps. I too was having issues up until the latest BETA Drivers were released. Now I have no texture dropping, LOD issues and my night vision finally works without strobing. The only issues I have now is rain looks a bit funky and the distance fog is still very prominent which are both very easy to tolerate. I don't run my game on high mind you because running shadows sucks the performance right out of the game for me but I gotsta have the shadows dammit.
urbanwarrior 0 Posted September 22, 2007 8800 gts 320mb here, no problems at all except the game crashes to desktop after an hour or two of online play but i think that has more to do with my antivirus software seeing arma as an attack! also my rear case fan is so hot its like a hairdryer after installling the 8800. i cant run it at high everything, frames drop a little when flying if i do that, however my memory is crap 1gb pcworld budget RAM and my e6600 is stock 2.4ghz so that could explain it. liongreek 0 Posted September 22, 2007 Just got an BFG 8800 GTS OC 640mb, I'm running XP Pro SP2 on a CoreDuo 6600, 2G Kingston 667. No problems whatsoever, minus the fog issue on all nVidia cards, in 1280x1024, all settings in Very High BTW, according to Tom's Hardware, the 8800 GTS either 320mb or 640m beats the shit out of the 2900XT 512mb in overall all Games fps http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphic....art=

ArmaVidz 0 Posted September 22, 2007 These 8800 GTS 640MB cards are awesome! Just for schnicks and giggles, try removing the @ symbol from any folders you are using; adjust your shortcut to remove the @ symbols from there as well and turn on V-Sync. Had a hissy-fit at my computer (had a due date) and I made some changes and I just...can't...crash my game anymore. Including alt+tabbing like mad. I'm running a core2quad + 8800gts 640mb so I should be having problems...but I'm not...in the least now

Noted, and as you see the difference is in very high video resolution, over 1600x* Generally the 2900 xt was built to surpass the 8800 series, as it has different architecture. It is definately a high end card, top of the line if you consider the 1024mb edition... ...as far as I'm concerned, upgrading from an ATI x1950xtx 512mb to the BFG 8800 GTS OC, I am quite satisfied with it, no problems so far...
