chATI Catalyst 7.9 WHQL

Recommended Posts

Dwarden or someone else might know more, but I believe that the VAR drivers are based on the ATI drivers... I don't think it should make much of a difference. Your VAR card may have features that aren't present on the OEM boards.. but I was using ASUS a8500 beta drivers (or whatever they called that board) with an AMD/ATI x850 setup and there was no problem.

In other news, I upgraded drivers AND upgraded to two x1950s and ArmA still locks up when I try to use crossfire mode with either ArmA.exe or AFR-FriendlyD3D.exe. :/

edit: HL2.exe doesn't cause ArmA to fail to start but there is no framerate increase to be seen. I think adaptive AA is working tho.

run with out any AA from the CCC, and name the Arma.exe to Fear.exe Also a lock up may occur when you rename because of your security settings ect... its a new .exe But yeah the hl2.exe stopped working for me around the 7.5s

Having a "special" x1950 (over clocked card, from HIS) should I use the official ATI drivers or HIS drivers? HIS recommand their drivers for their cards, but they are always way late compared to ATI.

(Latest HIS drivers are ATI XP Driver Verison: XP_8.401-070727a-050964C-ATI with WHQL)

Any idea?

Quote[/b] ]you can use latest drivers usually with any "SUPPORTED" family cards for standard operations ...

usually vendors only add own logo and ID tags etc ...

from time to time ASUS or similar bigger vendors add bonus features into drivers ...

But HIS does more than just adding logo and ID tags...

X1950PRO_PCIe_IceQ3_500.jpg

HIS X1950 PRO IceQ 3 Turbo

Engine clock: HIS:590 Original ATI card:575mhz

Memory speed: HIS:1.54GHz Original ATI card:1.38Ghz

Fast: HIS's intelligent Cooling technology automatically adjusts IceQ fan speed base on X1950's loading and temperature to achieve best performance

Quiet: Less than 20dB

Cool: -11°C cooler than original ATI cooling fan

All Cool: Outstanding IceQ cooling performance extends the card life

So can I use the 7.9 no problem or should I wait? (Especially because of the fan speed etc... is that controlled by the drivers?)

yes im sure u'll be fine with OFFICIAL drivers. well i reverted back to 7.6 (that was the patch that included arma hotfix??)

every driver from there on has just given me more troubles, wich makes me think these updates are majorly for the new HD series...

msi 1950 pro

hardware wise 99% of cards are same ...

and that's why i wrote 'it works' on all supported familes

this applies same with AMD.ATI and NVIDIA or else

there is PCB design which manufactures must stick to within tolerances and GPU is always from ATI

things sometimes change BIT with some mobile chips and that are only specific OEM revisions ...

anyway there is nice driver wrapper which adds to driver installer support for even unsupported mobile cards...

if you got AGP X1950pro or similar AGP card then 7.9 got note in known issues it may go all completely KO including total boot fail

let me sum up ... great official drivers smile_o.gif i wonder why they simply not do this

IF AGP & X1950 == THEN ABORT install smile_o.gif

yup, I BAN ATI FOR THIS!

Tryed it, and roll back! I hate ATI for this crappy updates! mad_o.gif

I installed these drivers without issue (I had no awareness of this issue at the time).

I had an issue with the previous couple of ATI drivers, where performance was terrible for the first (and only the first) reboot after installation. My standard practice is to now reboot immediately after windows finished loading for the first time after installing new drivers.

Is Crossfire now officially working with this driver or are we still having to rename the ArmA.exe and continue having seizures from the strobing that results most of the time? crazy_o.gif

Wow, just installed the 7.9 and the game runs noticeably smoother.

This is definitely an improvement, I flew around sarhani before and after installing the driver, and i quickly noticed the improvement.

It is a nice surprise!

However I still have my Airplane Shadow problem

specs: Core 2 Duo, P5B motherboard and HIS IceQ3 "Turbo" X1950 Pro (not agp)

On a sidenote, is it ok to install ATI drivers directly over old ones (without uninstalling the old ones)?

Nvidia drivers automatically uninstall the older ones, but it didnt seem to me that ATI drivers uninstalled the old ones, when I installed 7.9

u never shouldnt install new drivers over old 1's. I uninstall previous drivers, use driver cleaner to get rid of whats left of the old 1's and install new drivers.

i used the proper uninstallations of the driver.

i removed from Painel control, then rebooted and started in Safe mode. Then i used the Driver Cleaner 3 to remove the rest.

Restarted in normal mode and installed the driver. Had mentioned problem. confused_o.gif

maybe it has to do with the power supply. Mine is a 550w Green silent

i had the same prob when i bought the 1950pro and tried to run it with 400w noname PSU. only difference was that the monitor would shut down after about 40 mins gameplay. AT says that 1950 pro and xtx needs minimum 450w PSU and card draws between 17 and 22 ampers off the 12V rail. no i run the card with be quiet! 450W PSU wich has 25A on rail1 and 18A on rail 2, without any problems.

can any1 tell what was the update after ati hotfix release?huh.gif
