xav 0 Posted March 9, 2008 Keep reporting the TOW issue as a big fat BUG in the bug tracker/wikki... eventually they will fix it.
Richklink 0 Posted March 9, 2008 i'm sorry if 'TOWdaddy'-name is offending, it's not my intention to use it in negative way, i find it nice name, hopefully my kid will use it someday ROFL TOWdaddy - No offence taken m8, does make me sound like a school kid though - I also did 10 years in the Army
delta99 34 Posted March 9, 2008 Quote[/b] ]-Mouse is issue with me. Reticle moves in jumps (as my mouse jumps), at slow speeds and overall is highly inaccurate. It can't beat strudy 26 kilograms bulk of metal designed for that porpuse, which has to be operated with upper body (moving sideways) and wrists/arms (moving up-down)... It is great way to gain fine control over reticle, altough mouse is lighter to carry Again, this doesn't matter as missile doesn't respond to reticle's moves. This is probably your problem and most of the others posting about the TOW not tracking. It tracks fine for me. You have to make nice smooth movements with the mouse and you can correct it a decent amount. I have no problems hitting moving targets at 1000m.
snoops_213 75 Posted March 10, 2008 Hitting most targets at 1000m, moving or not, is not the problem. Its controlling any manually guided munition to over 1500m and beyond that become the problem. As someone said they always fly around in loops at the 1500m point and you loose control. A fix would be nice aswell as the ability to manually control munitions from aircraft, but not a show stopper as it seem AI are fine at hitting targets with them. Actually every one of the posts complains about not being able to track the TOW at all so yes that is the problem for most people. I only see one mention of this issue of looping after 1500m and haven't noticed it myself but will likely test for it at some point.

Infact now as your said this, my old rig and my old mouse performed much better with OFP's ATGMs. Moving T-80 at 1000-1500 meters was easy to hit with Operation Frenchpoint's Milan and ERYX (these guys did fine job) or FDF's ATGMs. I just thought that my memory of this subject was wrong, but instead it very much could be my hardware I've tested those with my current rig and mouse, and i didn't hit anything. Col. Faulkner 0 Posted March 12, 2008 ...2000m seems reasonable for max engagement range. In reality TOW and FITOW's maximum range is 3,750 metres. The range is limited by the length of the command wire. The very first TOW models in the 1960s had a wire only 1,000 metres long. The latest models have wireless guidance and a theoretical maximum range of over 9,000 metres. The TOW missile's tendency to pitch up and hunt as it approached its maximum range was due to a deficiency in the guidance system. The TOWs used by the Israelis were modified in the mid-1980s with an improved guidance system and a new motor to avoid this. According to them they improved hit-probability at 3,500m from 73.3% (of the US Army weapon) to 99%. Anyway, I really want a MILAN to play with, not a TOW.
