What PC should I get?

Recommended Posts

I want to play ArmA pretty bad. I even got the game.

I just don't have the rig for it.

I want to buy a pc from Costco. (I chose Costco cuz I am short on money)

I was wondering which out of these nine computers at Costco would be a good comp for playing ArmA.

Ofcourse I want full option and stuff but I don't know much about computers.

What do you recommend? Are there any good deals or info on getting a nice computer for ArmA for a little money?

I know some of them don't even come with Nvidia Graphics card or such. How much are they?

I know I sound clueless but I want you to help me please.

Thank you!

Search on the web on how to build your own computer......You will thank yourself in the future. A great site to buy hardware is www.newegg.com but dont worry about that until you learn about what parts you need and how to put them together(it is pretty simple). You will probably save money and your stuff wont be propietary.

TBH all of them are pretty crappy and overpriced.

but I would get this: http://www.costco.com/Browse....topnav=

and buy a kick ass graphics card and another gig of memory.

(don't worry the install of the GFX and RAM are very simple)

this is a nice and cheap GFX

1950pro 512mb

and maybe this RAM:

Wow

Thanks Puma.

So Costco is not the cheapest?

I guess going to Bestbuy is out of question then :b

I want to spend about a grand on getting a new computer (hopefully with a new screen as well) but I don't know which or how I should go at it.

I want a good fast gaming rig for this one. I already have my laptop for other stuff.

How can I build my own computer. Will it be really cheaper with more goodies?

Are there any website with deals and discounts?

Thanks again guys! My gurus!

Goooooooo Alienware ALX!...

if you have 6000+ dollars

Alienware are the most horribly overpriced PCs there are. You could build something for about half the price and cut out all the superflous shit from the specification (eg. Why does anyone need a BluRay drive as standard? Theyre about the price of an 8800GTX!wink_o.gif

I agree with Puma. Buy something half decent and put in a graphics card and more RAM. Finding a computer company that doesnt screw you over for a half decent card these days.... icon_rolleyes.gif

step 1) Buy all your parts online

step 2) Take all your parts to a computer shop to be built

step 3) Laugh @ all the people that bought computers from Alienware/Dell

Step 4) ??!?!?!

Step 5) Profit

Hi lawkim smile_o.gif

I highly recommend building your own PC with that grand as you will get a lot more bang for your buck. A lot of prebuilt systems use some good parts but also bottleneck you with some mediocre components which may severley limit your performance.

There are many good guides both on-line and in computer mags for how to build your own spanking new system.

I helped a buddy out with the same problem -

Found one of those crazy Dell deals for $499 just last week

for $499 you get:

Dimension 9200

Intel Dual Core E4300

2gb ram

80gb sata hard drive

128mb Nvidia 8300 GS video card

Upgraded on Dell's page to:

Intel Dual Core E6600

250gb sata hard drive

256mb Nvidia 8600 GTS video

And it came out to $963 with tax and free shipping!

It's really smooth on medium settings - no lag or stutter whatsoever.

Also smooth on high settings if I turn shadows, aa, post processing to medium or low.

I've never been a Dell fanboy, always liked putting things together myself - just really impressed that we could get performance like this in Arma with an 'economy' dell desktop.

Thanks guys!

Very good Advices

I am going to buy an ok system and buy a ram and a graphix card. I think that's a very good recommendation

Just in general tho, what are the processor speed, ram, graphics card recommendations on ArmA?

I guess 6600 is good for the processor

2 gb ram would be good

and

256mb Nvidia 8600 GTS video would be awesome.

How good will the game run under this setting?

I wouldnt bother buying the 8600.

If you have to short your money there, then save it up to get the 8800 if possible pistols.gif

Other than that i would say the game should run high depending on your view distance.

Im on a

AMD 4200

Nvidia 7800 GT ( Soon to be GTX for nothing biggrin_o.gif )

2GB Ram

And i run mine hmm lets see medium, with low or no shadows. I can run it in high but i usually get Frame rate issues in forests. ( Stupid grass )

If you wanna really get the maxium shit check this place out, its where i got mine about a year ago, there reliable, fast delivery, and good warrenty service wink_o.gif

make sure to get yourself a good mental doctor, you will need it if you "play" ArmA.

my most recent session:

first try: bad connection with a server, 10 minutes waiting in wain

second try: same thing

third try: got to play, all smooth, 2 minutes later crash to desktop

forth try: server problem again

all on 5 MB connection, I can play all other online games in the world, sorry, I am just frustrated like hell banghead.gifbanghead.gif

There is no reason this couldn't have been posted here, instead of creating a new thread.

Please search and check the stickies first. wink_o.gif
