gazmen 0 Posted June 23, 2007 Hi, I have find a bug wish is realy distrubing when using a tank alone in online game... I was a T72 driver going to a location (forest), when I reach it, I stop then I cut off engine to avoid I.R locking (against A.T & Javelin), I was hided in bush & Forest at 1km of war sector, I take the gunner position, & when I move the turrel, the engine start again ! So my question is how to keep engine off, when you are alone in tank using the main gun... Otherwise the Javelin AT soldier of the other side find my tank to easily with the IR signature, so I would like to know how to realy deactivate the Engine... This bug is realy annoying... With JAVELIN the adversary finds armor unit to easily even if they are hided... Also the T72 has not I.R & LASER Scrambler (like T80UM or T90 using SHTORA or ARENA)... So how to avoid to get destroyed ? So please explain me why the Engine start when I'm in gunner, and when I cut off Engine !
Vibrant_Viper 0 Posted June 23, 2007 I'm not sure if the main gun can be moved without the engine or some part of the engine is running.
gazmen 0 Posted June 23, 2007 @ June 23 2007,19:44)]I'm not sure if the main gun can be moved without the engine or some part of the engine is running. I'm not sur of that but it seems that the turrel is using electricity, the engine use benzine or gas...
kroky 1 Posted June 23, 2007 Even worse than that is, that you can't order AI to shut the engine down! Even in OFP (! you could give this command to the AI!
andersson 285 Posted June 24, 2007 Try to be a gunner in a stationare M113. Very anoying to rev the engine when you move the turret....
Infam0us 10 Posted June 24, 2007 I've noticed this aswell, seems whenever you move the turret of any vehicles its switches the engine on ... regardless if your driving the Tank lone wolf or with a squad. Does'nt seem to be a workaround unless you mention for it to be included in the next patch?
Serclaes 0 Posted June 24, 2007 AFAIK modern tanks are equipped with an auxiliary power supply like a battery of some kind. These are used to maintain the functionality of the gun and the targetting systems. When dug in or hiding, tanks usually turn off the main engine in order to avoid detection and unessecary fuel usage. So indeed, this could be classified as a minor bug. gazmen 0 Posted June 27, 2007 In reality does the engine need to fonction to use gunner ? Any expert ?
max power 21 Posted June 27, 2007 If the turret weighs several tons.. or even a portion of a ton, what do you think generates the power to be converted to electricity to move the turret? Of course the engine needs to be on.
Balschoiw 0 Posted June 27, 2007 I guess it´s a compromise for playability. While it´s true that some turrets can´t be turned when engine is off, IRL, this doesn´t go for light vehicle lafettes, top mounted TOW´s or such. They are aimed by hand, moved by hand. The problem within Arma (and OFP) is that only vehicles with engine-on will be recognized as targets by AI. If they are not running their engines, they look neutral for AI. So by adding this bound thing, in as gunner-> aiming-> engine on, they enable AI to recognize the vehicle as a threat. As soon as the gunner stops aiming the engine is turned off anyway after 1 second or so, so once you have taken your weapon pointing into the right direction the engine turns off automatically again. Active scanning the area is bound to have the engine started. I guess it was implemented that way for just that reason.
