things I like and dislike

Recommended Posts

Hi

Armed has good things and bad things about it. the little things that annoy me is, why do the pilots have m16? is that what they carry in real life?

What happened to the Captive soldiers, they we a good feature in OFP?

What happened to the Chinook? I thought it was one of the best vehicles in OFP. However Im glad they've put the A-10 back in.

One more thing, ARMA is a massive improvement since OFP, especially in graphic terms and for example the soldier animation is amazing, but most of the vehicles have remained the same since the 1980's, when OFP was based, Its like they have just been transfered over. these are vehicles like the UH-60 helicopter, which could have been changed for a more modern day equivalent, such as the merlin or future lynx and the humvees, which could have been updated. I know they are all still in frequent service today, but even more changes should have been made.

However such things as the Harrier and the strykers are a very good addition.

What do you mean? If you are talking about the units which looks like a soldiers, but have no weapons, and are not attacked by other (enemy) soldiers, then they are only hidden from editor, but they are there - use classes "SoldierWCaptive", "SoldierECaptive", and "SoldierGCaptive".

Apart from that, you can make such "captive" soldiers with any class, just remove any weapons from them, and use "setCaptive" command, or group them under some civilian unit (which should make them civilians too).

Thanks for you reply, yes I mean those unarmed soldiers, who dont do anything.

I dont understand what you mean: use classes "SoldierWCaptive", "SoldierECaptive", and "SoldierGCaptive", where can I find this?

and how can I remove any weapons from them, and use "setCaptive" command, is this in the waypoint interface or something

"We got a Lynx down, I repeat, we got a Lynx down"...

it's just not nearly as catchy.

Hi, one new added thing that i like is that now the yankee and rebel

units, have the Cat Eyes in the helmet band as a 3D thing, what

makes me think that's a new selection in the model, to make that

shine as it made it in the BAS De/Ra; but what i dislike... is that

it don't really shines, at least... yet. Could we see the cat eyes

working in the next patch release or we gonna have a long painfull

wait until that the units MLODs be released and a addon/mod team

taking the time to make this work?. Let's C ya

comparing to OFP and not only OFP:

1) I LIKE

- many units can be used in mission, in OFP more units, game lag and stop, here in ARMA i can make mission with 40-50 units without harm to graphics & performance ,

- very beautifull nature and environment

- very good and real looking weapons, vehicles (in OFP weapons were tragic), here quality of orginal weapons is very very very good,

- very good man models

>> generally as graphical quality and environment i don't expect more, this game is much better that i need or ever wanted graphically

2) I DON'T LIKE

- HDR, now since 1.08 much much better, but before 1.08 my nerves were ***, now okay

- sometimes CTD, loosing textures (many treads about this)

- destruction stucture of vehicles : rusty rubber tire after burned vehicle,

- no bullet proff materials, no bullet proof properties (near 400 rounds 5.56 destroy M113, BMP, probably more than 600-800 bullets from 5.56 will destroy T72 in game, in real life NEVER)

- structure of dammage of vehicles, you can make car burn after some shots in doors , haha

- 2 shots in hand and man is dead, man should be heavy wounded, not able to hold gun, but alive, just like sometimes one shot in leg kills, i want wounded , not able to move or etc. but not dead after 0,1 of second, normally it is not like that

- no working vests (generally no bullet proof materials)

- after building crush there is only small heap of trash, i want for example half of building to be crushed, but not whole building after one HEAT into small heap

- AI do not obey orders sometimes (don't fire)

- AI uses RPG against man, when it comes to meet tanks, they don't have ammo

- AI is god-knowledge , sometimes after your one shot he exactly knows where are you, no shock parameter or disorientation of AI

>> generally my all dislikes can be put into one sentence, i bought product, on box of this product there was written it supossed to be realistic battlefield simulator, so paying for such product i wait for realism, not for eye-candys like other modern games , which i don't use , i used OFP for 5 years, now ARMA, i don't care about other games (althought they give fun), but from ARMA i expect realism for the first priority

buying new PC, paying for product i was expecting that advertisment on box as "most realistic battlefield simulating system" and inside book will be in software as written :/

just like if you buy Corel , you expect software for graphics, not for music editing, the same goes to ARMA,

realism for me is much much more important than graphics, MOHAA, RTCW, OFP graphics is for me enough good

i haven't played in Stalker or others because they are not intersting to me as software, i don't care about them

in last years percentage of time in gameplay was > OFP 95% vs. RTCW, MOHAA, COD, SOF < 5% (only when i wanted stupid joy, and i was playing on cheats, just to throw all by grenades and watch flying bodies or all missions by using knife, but it was just for stupid joy)

i know that making eye-candies are much easier to do for developer than good AI, destruction model and etc.

since 2000 when OFP was released and since 5 years from RES there could be done more with this

amen biggrin_o.gif
