Multiplayer Woes

Recommended Posts

I am having a rather interesting, and extremely frustrating, issue with my system at the current time and I am hoping someone out there can point me in the right direction.

Recently I completely updated my system to a higher end.  I have an Intel Duo Core processor (2.61 GHz), 2 GB of DDR2 Ram (PNY), an Asus P5B mainboard (Wi Fi Edition), an NVIDIA 8800 GTC video card (BFG Tech), and a 500GB SATA Hard Drive (Maxtor).

I am using the onboard sound as well as the onboard gigabit Ethernet card.

I can play single player with no problems whatsoever, even at high settings.  In addition I can also go to the armory and play there as well.  The problem is when I attempt to play in multiplayer.  I can pull up the screen and go as far as seeing the individual servers.  When I attempt to join a server the game freezes and I crash to a reboot with the dreaded BSoD (All of this happens within a few seconds).  I have tried several different servers and the same thing happens.

I have tried to remedy this by changing my video options (resolution) and even checked the status of my Internet connection.  All works fine.  I have tested other programs (Joint Operations is one) and I do not have this problem with any of them.  I am able to go out to the Internet so I know it isn’t a connection problem.

Has anyone seen this or may have an explanation as to why this is happening?

I would appreciate any help I can get.

Regards

Haz

**Edit**

I failed to mention I am running XP Home with the latest updates.

In adition the ArmA is the Atari Download with the new 1.08 patch.

Thanks

Sounds like you need to do a run through ALL installed/configured firewall applications (Windows Firewall, some popup blockers/internet esecurity/antivirus have firewalls) on your computer and allow the new and updated v1.08 ArmA.exe signature in all your programs.

Also make sure that your Router/Modem is not blocking any of the needed outgoing ports ArmA is using. (As client, there are only outgoing connections, none incoming)

Also is this problem since 1.08 or you started per 1.08?

It wasn't a problem until 1.08 however, I updated my PC between 1.06 and 1.08 as well. I'll check the firewall setup as well as soon as I get home. Thanks.

Well, I checked and adjusted the firewall access points as necessary and it did help some. I am able to enter games for the most part however there are a few where I get the BSoD and reboot automatically just as before.

In addition I am able to play for a bit however I ultimately crash to the desktop.

That is the issue with the 8800. I currently have the 8800 and I also crash to desktop. One way of preventing this is set texture on low and when things get choppy type LEFT SHIFT + MINUS and then type the word FLUSH. This will get rid of your VRAM. Keep doing this every once inawhile to prevent the crash. I have RivaTuner to watch my Vram and if it reaches a certain point I flush it. Hopefully BIS will come out with a hotfix soon.

I have the same problem, except I have a completely different setup. As soon as I double click on a server, I get the "ArmA has encountered a problem and needs to shut down" dialog box.

System specs:

AMD Athlon 3700+

DFI Lanparty UT nf4 Ultra-D

2GB OCZ gold pc-4200

ATI X1900XT

Western Digital 36GB Rapters in Raid 0.

Windows XP Pro

Oh and before you point at the router I'm behind, I've put myself in DMZ on that thing and it still crashed, so that's not it.

Okay, I took Binkster's advice and It worked. Setting the textures to low allowed me to play without any problems. Try that and it might work for you. Thanks Binkster!

you need to update ur openAL.dll file that will do the trick.

I had the same prob everything was fine in single player but when i tried to go multiplayer it crashed so yeah

update openAL.dll

go to C:windows/system32 and remove openAL.dll first before installing the new one and try it. It should work

oh and to get openAL just google it

This is one of the issues I encountered while trying to get the game working this weekend. I got around it by disabling all firewall and AV software, then un-installing/re-installing and re-patching ArmA.

I also cleared out every ArmA file I could find in numeruos "document and settings" folders.
