m0nkm0nk 0 Posted June 10, 2007 Hi dudes, Server probs again... It seems to be running a server and play @ the same time is giving probs? I have a 2.5 ghz amd 64 cpu san diego 7950gt nvidia 512 card and 2 gb ram.. DSL line: 3mbit down 1mbit up Every time i build a listen or dedicated server players ( friends ) are joining and we are selecting a map, the map loads and we start. But directly ping is rising and rising its like my cpu cant handle the server... Example.. Player joins > 21 ms > game starts > 50 ms and rising players get a yellow or red chain in the rightlowercorner of the screen............ sometimes the message : no message received for xx seconds also appears.. We tryed this also on a dedicated server CPU: 2.6 ghz pentium RAM: 2 gb ram OS: XP DSLLINE: 6 mbit down 1mbit up Exactly the same here... Its both on 1.05 and 1.07 even if you are joining the ded server on local you can get lag or shizzle ITS REALLY FUCKED SO PLZ can someone get me an answer cause we cant play because of this crap.. thnx
5133p39 14 Posted June 10, 2007 ever wondered why is it called "dedicated" server?
1436 1 Posted June 10, 2007 if you have 512mb of ram Set the dedicated server to -maxmem=512 and game to -maxmem=

m0nkm0nk 0 Posted June 10, 2007 if you have 512mb of ram Set the dedicated server to -maxmem=512 Â and game to -maxmem=512 the ram of the server never comes above 200 or something so dont know if that is really necessary
cixx 0 Posted June 10, 2007 I'm having the exact same problem on my dedicated server. I'm experiencing lag a few minutes after the mission has started. It's starts at 1 ms, and after a while (1-2 minutes) it can increase  up to 2000+ ms. While playing I ran ping in a cmdprompt. This is what I got: (hope u'll understand my graph ) time/ms--------------------------------> | |   i |   i |   i |   i |   i |   i |   i |   i |   i |   iii |   iiiiiiiii |   iiiiiiiiiiiiii |   iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii |   iiiiiiiiiiiiii |   iiiiiiiii |   iii |   i |   i |   i |   i |   i |   i | V From 1 ms to 2000+ ms and back to 1 ms again, and this patern repeats itself over and over. CPU/RAM load stays the same, about 30%/330MB with the mission I was testing. And also my network isn't getting higher then 50KB/s. So whats the problem here? Plenty of CPU, RAM and bandwith available... Server specs: Celeron 2.7 Ghz 1GB Ram 100 Mbit connection Desktop specs: AMD 4200 X2 7800 GTX 1GB Ram 1000 Mbit connection

stompy 0 Posted June 11, 2007 Id say you would need a dual core cpu to run ded on same machine as playing. I have AMD 3800x2, 2 gb ram and x1950 pro, I run a ded server on one core and my game runs on the other, most of the time load is at 100% on both cores, ram usage sits at 90-95 %. I have zero lag, even EVO running for 4 days didnt produce any, mind you I have config set to only 8 players, maybe that has something to do with it?
m0nkm0nk 0 Posted June 11, 2007 yeah but even on a dedicated machine on local i just cant play because of lag server settings are good, readed all of the crap in other topics..
stompy 0 Posted June 11, 2007 Opened all ports? Turning off AV and firewall? Tested with another game? Tried increasing pagefile?
5133p39 14 Posted June 11, 2007 yeah but even on a dedicated machine on local i just cant play because of lagserver settings are good, readed all of the crap in other topics.. You are running two very resource hungry applications (ArmA client, and ArmA dedicated server) at the same time on the same computer, and you are surprised that you get a LAG while playing? Dedicated server applications are supposed to run on a computer which is dedicated solely to the running of that application (more or less). You can't expect to have smooth game while running both the ArmA client and the ArmA DS on the same machine, use the listen server (just run ArmA client, click on "multiplayer" and host the game) instead. ...i hope i didn't misunderstood your problem, if so, try to explain it a bit more. gL33k 0 Posted June 11, 2007 a whole cpu, for the server. You could do that if you have an atlhon X2.

My home: > MY PC AMD 3700+ 2GB RAM Geforce 7950GT > DEDICATED PC PENTIUM 4 2,6 GHZ 2GB Ram Friends home: > His PC dont know hardware > DEDICATED PC PENTIUM 3ghz 2gb ram -------------------------------- We both got 1Mbit up and 3/6 mbit down It doesnt care who is hosting it lags, If he hostst and i join he get lag on LAN and i also over the Internet If I host I get lag on my DEDICTAD SERVER and he also. See the probs? Doesnt matter who is hosting or from what location. And ofcourse i know the props from hosting on my pc a server and playing arma, but i dont do that cause i have a DEDICATEDserver
m0nkm0nk 0 Posted June 11, 2007 Trying on Version 1.08 now
Dudester 0 Posted June 11, 2007 The obvious answer is, its your servers that you are running. I would suggest contacting your isp and asking them why.
5133p39 14 Posted June 11, 2007 And ofcourse i know the props from hosting on my pc a server and playing arma, but i dont do that cause i have a DEDICATEDserver You said that you are running dedicated server and your ArmA client on the same machine, in the same time. And now youre telling us you don't do that, because you have a dedicated server. That a little too much confusing. For the last time - are you running DS on the same machine as you are playing, or not?

If you read my FP then you can seeeeeeee in the middle that i talked about a dedicated server and for the third time, no i dont use the ded on the same machine
Spectre-63 0 Posted June 11, 2007 What's your LAN setup like? Do you have everything connected directly to the router or are you using separate switches/hubs? What happens when you connect to the dedicated server locally without having your friend connect? Do you still see the same issues?
bluevein 0 Posted June 12, 2007 There are also some parameters that can be used to fine-tune network performance. You can add following entries to arma.cfg (the main Armed Assault configuration file) <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">MaxMsgSend=<limit>; Maximum number of messages that can be sent in one simulation cycle. Increasing this value can decrease lag on high upload bandwidth servers. Default: 128 MaxSizeGuaranteed=<limit>; Maximum size of guaranteed packet in bytes (without headers). Small messages are packed to larger frames. Guaranteed messages are used for non-repetitive events like shooting. Default: 512 MaxSizeNonguaranteed=<limit>; Maximum size of non-guaranteed packet in bytes (without headers). Non-guaranteed messages are used for repetitive updates like soldier or vehicle position. Increasing this value may improve bandwidth requirement, but it may increase lag. Default: 256 MinBandwidth=<bottom_limit>; Bandwidth the server is guaranteed to have (in bps). This value helps server to estimate bandwidth available. Increasing it to too optimistic values can increase lag and CPU load, as too many messages will be sent but discarded. Default: 131072 MaxBandwidth=<top_limit>; Bandwidth the server is guaranteed to never have. This value helps the server to estimate bandwidth available. MinErrorToSend=<limit>; Minimal error to send updates across network. Using a smaller value can make units observed by binoculars or sniper rifle to move smoother. Default: 0.01 MaxCustomFileSize=<size_in_bytes>; Users with custom face or custom sound larger than this size are kicked when trying to connect. Note The greatest level of optimization can be achieved by setting the MaxMsgSend and MinBandwidth parameters. For a server with 1024 kbps we recommend the following values: MaxMsgSend = 256; MinBandwidth = 768000; thanks to BI
m0nkm0nk 0 Posted June 14, 2007 THnx to all the post, but is doesnt seemed to help.. We patched to 1.08 and stil lag. We are buying a 100mbit dedicated server now so we cant stop the crap and play.
1436 1 Posted June 15, 2007 shood be this realy Next time read the readme in the Dedicated server or Go to Multiplayer this is a Multipalyer issue. MinErrorToSend=0.01; MaxSizeGuaranteed=512; MaxSizeNonguaranteed=256; MinBandwidth=768000; // 768Kb be min bandwith MaxBandwidth=1000000; // 1mbit max bandwith
