SlurrpyChillyFries 0 Posted June 1, 2007 At the moment, forget AMD. Wipe it out of your mind. ASAP.Intel C2D and upcoming penryn kicks amd in butt, and 22.7 is coming an another pricecut where you get new models E6750 for $170 and E6850 for $266. E6850 is better than X6800 with its 1333mhz fsb and 3,0 ghz clock speeds. Oh yeah, and E6700 is equal to AMD X2 6000+ just to let you know. But you will get it's better version E6750 for sub $200 price. be careful, an equaly prices amd is still keeping up and out pacing (in some instances) duo in game benchmarks...especially the serious sam 2 engine...athlon has a 10% lead over intel. look at the engine you use the most and then make your decision. xnodunitx 0 Posted June 2, 2007 Vista..from what I'v heard from most gamers right now, the only thing it has going for it is the ability to use DX10 wheras XP cannot..yeah..microsoft screwed us all over nicely on that one. Vista is supposed to be more stable..supposedly, I know some friends who work as tech's at a college, one the director of their IT department. They tried to install vista but it seemed to screw up everything within a day or two..needless to say, they went back to XP and will soon be going to Unix. There are many rumors about Vista, that its more secure, that it tracks your files more, won't run 'incompatible software' and no I don't mean illegal kind, I mean legal. In truth I wouldn't trust anything from microsoft if I had the choice. So its up to you, wether or not you want your hardware to possibly run better with the OS and get DX10 in exchange for who knows what amount of trouble then I'd recommend vista. platoon_spare 0 Posted June 2, 2007 Hi Im running arma 1.07 .5157 and have no problems at all I am getting 45 to 75 fps on high and very high. 16:9 format 1280x1040 75hz I dont agree about bottle neck for the dual core procesors as arma does not utilize dual core. and so far overclocked to 20% or the standard out the box feqs for my e6300 doesnt make any difference in playing performance or frame rates. I did purchase 2gb of watercooled ocz 1150mhz ram which might help make the difference and as usual a GOOD power supply always repays the investment , I chose a 720 Enermax infiniti with 3 -28amp rails so I dont have to guess why & where my systems keeps slowing down / crashing which happens alot with cheep psu's. I purchased the cheapest 8800gts 640 i could find and upgraded it with a water cooled kit, it suffered under 1.05 alittle but not anything to cry about., but with the lastest beta 160 nvidia drivers all was sorted out. Vista runs arma fine.... Its true its a pain for usb modems etc and networking is a real struggle sometimes but other wise it works more or less like xp. (I have 3 pcs with win2000 xp and vista). Dave Asus Stricker extreme, intel e6300 oc 20% wc ,infiniti psu 720w, gpu 8800gts 640 wc , 2GB OCZ 1150mhz ram wc, Thermaltake Kandalf LCS Alu case watercooled, Samsung 226bw 22" lcd 2ms . I get my new computer this monday with Vista 64bit and GTX, all the nice workings so i'll either tell ya how good it works or complain like the rest :P

leckig 0 Posted June 5, 2007 get the E4300 on S3 board, overclock to 3ghz and save yourself a fortune that way. It is soooo easy!
gL33k 0 Posted June 5, 2007 i wouldnt worry about ddr2, core 2 duo is using ddr2 but athlon's built in memory controller gives you 20% performance increase as it runs at full clock speed. 20% against their predecessor ! athlonXP. i saw (anandtech i think..) even in memory latency sensitive task, C2D is still above A64. with its external controller. But Creative has a OpenAL patch/wrapper or something to compensate? I read it in an IT mag. if I remember correctly. MS was saying how third party audio was the main cause of too many BSD's. The mag. was saying that was BS just MS wants more control over copyright audio blah blah blah... I still can't decide on a new rig myself. I use 3DS Max, Photoshop, Sony Vegas, BF2, and ArmA more than anything else so I need a pretty HD rig. Here's my wishlist so far: EVGA 122-CK-NF63-TR nForce 680i SLI Socket 775 1333MHz DD2-800 Extreme Overclocking Motherboard 2X Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5 2GB Kit DDR2-1066 XMS2-8500 Memory Retail Intel® Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe Processor 2.4GHz EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800 GTX 2X Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD800AAJS 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache SATA II Hard Drive Retail Western Digital Caviar SE WD2000JS 200GB Serial ATA II 7200RPM Hard Drive w/8MB Buffer Now that one of you said the 6850 price drop I'll wait till then. Already prices I've got for this list changed in just a couple days! I guess I would hang tight see how 1.08 patch works with ArmA and by that time we will all have a better idea on what to buy. EDIT: OH yea DON'T get WMCE 2005 I have it downstairs and its a worthless POS! You are better off getting WinXP Pro. and Beyond TV (http://www.snapstream.com/) if you don't want Vista.
