Infam0us 10 Posted May 31, 2007 Hey guys, I've been playing ArmA fine for the past few months and it's been working great. However the other week the screen just started randomly bobbing up and down during play. I reset the PC and put the GFX card settings back to standard as I thought it might be because of the overclocked card, still the screen bobbed up and down. After reinstalling a different set of drivers it seemed to stop this issue for a week or two. But now its just happened again, I've included a video to show you what happens ... Video Any ideas whats causing this issue? Any advice is welcome System Specs - PSU - 500W Silverstone SLi Dual +12V Mobo: Gigabyte GA K8N51GMF-RH NF410 - S754 Processor: AMD Athlonâ„¢ 64 Processor 3400+ Newcastle S754 2.5Ghz RAM: x 2 512 MB PC3200 DDR SDRAM Hard Drive: 335GB Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900GS 256MB Sound Card: Creative X-Fi Music Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack
AsRock+SD 0 Posted May 31, 2007 maybe a key conflict ?.. i thought you were on about a CRT going bad untill i had seen the vid..
Rg 0 Posted June 1, 2007 The only thing that comes to mind is screen resolutions and refresh rates. It looks like your monitor doesn't know what resolution to stay at. It's a long shot, but test various resolutions and refresh rates from your desktop AND ingame. Try lots of different combos from each.
VictorFarbau 0 Posted June 1, 2007 Infam0us, two thoughts from my side: 1. Is it possible you have some problem with HID connected to your computer? Like a rampant mouse or joystick or both? Maybe disconnect or try another one? 2. Do you have any program installed that tries to hook in between video output and maybe causes these errors? Like any screen capture program or VNC or similar? What did you install or try right before this started? Regards, Victor
Infam0us 10 Posted June 1, 2007 AsRock+SD - What do you mean by a key conflict? And I have a TFT. Its only an issue ingame aswell, does'nt seem to happen anywhere else on the PC. rg7621 - Aye, I've tried all the refresh rates ArmA has to offer and they all don't seem to have any effect, also tried a number of different resolutions and nothing seems to solve it. VictorFarbau - Don't think its a HID device as the rest of the PC works fine, only happens ingame. And other programs seem to work fine so not sure what it is? The only possible program I can think of that relates to video output is Fraps? Maybe X-Fire aswell although I'm not entirely sure? Thanks for your help guys, keep it coming - I might have to Format the PC though because got an important clan match on Saturday and this buggers up my aim now end
Jack-UK 0 Posted June 1, 2007 Well if the drivers fixed it for a while then its probably a graphical issue.. my original thought was that it was a key conflict or a mouse issue but it doesnt look like the crosshair moves :S Dont you use a 360 controller? Try unplugging it or something maybe its trying to control it while ur using the mouse or something... But if the drivers fixed the issue then i guess its graphical :S but ive never seen anything like that happen before lol
5133p39 14 Posted June 1, 2007 I don't think this is caused by any "video" software, because you can clearly see that the camera is MOVING - i don't see how any "video" software could be cause of that. First recheck your controls settings in ArmA - maybe there is some conflict (like same key/anything for two contradictory actions? up and down? ...although that seems very unlikely). If you are not using joystick, try to disable it in ArmA settings. If that won't help finding the cause of this, then i would try some other/different mouse (preferably one which uses different drivers), other/different keyboard, and disconnect any possible joystick (maybe even uninstall its drivers) or simmilar input devices. 5133p39 14 Posted June 1, 2007 oh, and another thing: are you using any addons? Make sure you run clean version of ArmA - does it happen too? ...i can imagine it could be caused by some weird bug related to character animation.
Infam0us 10 Posted June 2, 2007 I just want to say ... I feel so stupid ... disabling my joystick in game stopped the problem. I'm so happy now! Shame it only took me two formats and about a dozen graphics card drivers to figure out eh! Thanks for all your help guys!

Anyway, glad you're sorted, Victor
Infam0us 10 Posted June 4, 2007 Now I think about it logically - HID - Controller yes ... but my anger at the game I was convinced it was a graphical issue! Nevertheless thanks everyone for your help
