iorwerththeblack 0 Posted May 30, 2007 I was wondering if anyone could give me some hints about what I should be doing in the game in multiplayer mode? I can figure out the mission objectives when I look at the map. Do I just head towards them and look for the enemy? How does a side gain control of an objective? Is it when the last enemy in that area is gone or do you need to capture a flag, building etc? My experience so far has been quite frustrating, as I spawn then hopefully get a lift to the battle site, but when i get there there seem to be very few enemies or allies around. I then generally spend 15 mins running around with nothing happening. Is this normal or do I need to look at particular areas? I was under the impression that even if there were only a few players there would be plenty of AI soldiers, on your side and on the other. Also, I know there is a squad type system going on but I can't figure out how to find my squad mates or communicate with them. Is there a way of identifying them on the map? I really want to get into this game and have read there is a steep learning curve, but at the moment i feel that I am all at sea. Any help would be much appreciated. Col.Flanders 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Iorwerththeblack, What multiplayer mode/map/game have you been playing? It sounds like you're describing Evolution but I can't be sure. The various gametypes and maps have different objectives and threats etc. For example, in Evolution, you'll notice that every town except Paraiso (closest to the home base) has AA defenses in the form of Shilkas. This threat shows up on the map as a sort of red gauze over and around any given town. Once the AA threat in a town is neutralised, the red "gauze" disappears and what's left is a grey area showing a general enemy occupation of the town. The majority of armour/infantry must be destroyed and the town will be considered clear however there is always the chance of an infantryman or two still in the area. Secondary objectives are clearly marked on the map. Then again, if you're not talking about Evolution then not all of the above applies and the rules are often different. iorwerththeblack 0 Posted May 31, 2007 Thanks Col. Flanders. I think that you are right that I have probably being playing an Evo mod, as I did wonder what all the red hatching was about! I presume in Evolution from what you say, that the first goal is to get rid of the AA defences. Do you just go up to them and shoot them or do you need to use explosives? Out of interest, are there certain maps/mods etc that have more action than others? In the single player missions you sometimes control an AI squad - does this happen in multiplayer? walker 0 Posted May 31, 2007 Hi Iorwerththeblack There are many different game forms in ArmA: Follow this link http://dslyecxi.com/armattp.html It will help you unserstand the complexity of MP in ArmA and forms a good basis for how to play in MP *Death matches often indicated by a DM in the MP browser. *CTF capture the flag for points. There are many differnt forms from the old standard hexenkessle shoe box map to large maps with just respawn protection. *Capture and hold (C&H) capture and hold locations for points the most advanced form being Berzerk *Capture The Island (CTI) sort of like a large scale C&H. *Evolution sounds like you are playing that. Go look in the user created missions section of this forum to find out more get tips and who knows maybe even a manual. *Coop these tend to be the most realistic a team of human players take on the AI. Using comms; usualy Team Speak and appling realistic millitary Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures. *PVP Coop the most realistic form two coop teams using comms usualy Team Speak fight each other based on a realistic battle scenario. Usualy requires joining a  private server very complex lots of planning many former and serving soldiers play this form. Kind regards walker
-Puma- 2 Posted May 31, 2007 If u press the map key, u get the mission description, where all the objectives are shown and usually theres explanation, what u need to do in the mission. When ur playing evolution, just hop into sum1's hummer and let him drive u to the battlefield(going alone in mp is allways confusing at first). U can allways use the chat key to communicate with teammates.
iorwerththeblack 0 Posted May 31, 2007 Thanks for all the replies. I have another question about communication. I know you can sent text communications by using the / key, but the rules seem to suggest that there is an inbuilt voice communication system when you press the Caps lock. However, in all my time of running around aimlessly i have never heard anyone speaking! Have I got the Caps lock thin wrong?
bravo 6 0 Posted May 31, 2007 it can be defined by the server.. If server says "I dont want to use it" the players will not be able to use it or hear it.
