Tobruk 0 Posted May 25, 2007 Hey BIS, What are the chances of porting the tracers over from VBS2 to ARMA?? Pretty please.
abs 2 Posted May 25, 2007 God, I wish I were a mod. I would have locked this thread already. Abs
abs 2 Posted May 25, 2007 Why? Because it's been stated many many times over that there is no hope of this happening. A quick search of the forums would have shown you that. Abs
Tobruk 0 Posted May 25, 2007 Well I just performed the search and did not really find the answer from a technical perspective. All I really got was an explanation from a player basically saying the had to leave the good stuff for VSB2. Maybe you could enlighten me on the technical feasibility? BlackScorpion 0 Posted May 25, 2007 Technically - propably very possible. But VBS series isn't made by BIS, but by BIA. Engine is the same (basically - VBS got the fancy stuff) but they don't have the rights, and thus it's illegal to even import stuff from VBS's into ArmA and OFP. Not illegal the other way around, though, AFAIK.
Tobruk 0 Posted May 25, 2007 Oh okay thanks for that, I'm glad at least it is technically possible because the mods did a pretty good job on OPF with tracers. I'm just surprised that BIS did not revise the tracers as well. Perhaps a later patch.

Perhaps a later patch. Technically possible? Maybe. They are not the same program. Quite illegal, much very. It would be nice if you used the search function in the future... and maybe read the forum rules. Discussing vbs2 features is not permitted.
Gecko1969 0 Posted May 26, 2007 What is this "illegal" stuff? Go to VBS2 website and check out the support links. . . Takes you to this forum. . . BIS owns both. Anything preventing the exchange is made by BIS to prevent it for marketing reasons only, not due to any laws but contractual obligations made BY BIS. The same engine runs both, but time/money is the factor here. Want to pay (guessing amount here) $300 USD or more for VBS2 lite, that is the only way. AND you need enough other people willing to cough up that kind of money, ain't going to happen. No "laws" or technology barriers here simple Market forces. Actually, the illegal part is if someone FROM the community (i.e. not employed by BI) was to take content from VBS and put it in OFP/ArmA. BI are well within their rights to do what they want with their own code. However, people are trying to make the point that large portions of VBS are developed by BIA, which is a seperate company to BIS, and develops a lot of content in-house. They are trying to get the point across that content developed by BIA is not necessarily property of BIS, and therefore does not automatically qualify for transferance to ArmA. Just because its in VBS does not automatically mean that we [the ArmA players] either deserve, warrant, or have paid for it to be in ArmA.
Gecko1969 0 Posted May 26, 2007 No but it's all contracts made by basically the same company (same people working at "different" companies is all a bunch of paper nothing more). And you are very right that it's to prevent the community from making the changes on their own. But it's not like it'd take more than a swipe of the pen (delete key on the keyboard) to change the contract and the technical side is not the issue. Again Money, Money, and lack of money to be made. Get 100,000 (pulled that number out of the sky) or more fans willing to shell out some where near the 50% price point of the full VBS2 and VBS2-lite will magically appear. franze 196 Posted May 26, 2007 If you have questions regarding VBS, ask them at a VBS related site. Closing.
