Russia vs. Canada olympics

I know this is going to be hard for some of you to believe coming from ME but....

*begin idealistic rant*

I don't even really care if the US gets the most medals. I like that we get something, but its I'm more interested in just seeing the athletes, ANY athlete giving his performance his all and being able to tell that what they are doing is coming from their heart....

I always like to THINK (though I know different) that the Olympics are politicalless, that its the one time the world comes together and can easily celebrate each other and their efforts.

Thats why when something like doping or cheating comes in it disgusts me so, and thats why the Canadian/Russian issue is important. Not only the allegations of cheating, but the Canadians clearly were skating their hearts out and giving a performance of their lives, while the Russians made mistakes, look somewhat sloppy and distracted.

Also why I was really hoping that Chinese skater had stuck that quad....THAT'S effort!

The country isn't important to me...its the effort....why I can be happy for ANY country to win...

*end idealistic rant*

Just my two cents....

I got 3 words for you....

american olympics sucks

Welll..... the US did have the most medals in the 2000 summer games in sydney..  your obviousley superior placed a distant second with 9 fewer medals total, and 8 fewer gold medals...  so maby yer statment is just a TAD incorrect... of corese.. im sure im wrong.. as usual.

currently US is very very a close second behind germany with the same number of medals won, in fact german is only winning becasue it has one more silver than the US..

however.. alas your great perfect country only has 5 total.. and only 1 gold... hmmm...   it would appear at this junction that "american olympics" dont exactly "suck"

have a nice day my little panting raving friend

P.S. I saw the russian figure skating.. they did ok as far as I could tell... but im not very current on what is "good", hell I havent ice skated since I ws 10, what do I know?

germany

Gold: 3

Silver: 5

Bronz:1

US:

Gold:3

Silver:4

Bonrz: 2

USSR:

Gold: 1

Silver: 2

Bronz: 2

You are absolutely correct wobble, the difference in medals is realy not great. But there are still some very sport-disciplines (do you call it that way) to come in which Germany is pretty strong. US can still hope for Ice-hockey, but I dont realy know.

On the other hand this is not Sydney SO, this is winter-olympics. While in america the summer-olympics are the great event in Europe (or at least in the german speaking part) the winter-olympics are very very popular.

Akira, I dont know how you see it but I think sports are a healthy competition. Whether this guy is from France or Beligium, I dont care and I enjoy watching the performance. However I see nothing wrong with cheering for your country. (there are no "I feel superior emotions"). Cheering too is part of the game. This is the party for the sport-fans. MY friends an me we watch it together and it is great fun. I dont know how to say it, but maybe you should ask a Brasilian soccer fan why he cheers for national-team. He probably wouldnt even understand your question, he would think you are from a different planet! biggrin.gif

(BTW, today was the first time Israel played against Germany soccer on german ground. It was a good friendly game)

I like how Silencer thinks that if one American thinks a certain way, then all Americans think the same way. as if we are some sort of "Borg"-like collective.

I dont hate or dislike Russia/Russians at all. I hope it continues to improve. Wealth Redistribution is what i dont like (which happens here in the USSA). Russia has an interesting Histroy and culture with art.

Oh don't get me wrong..I don't think there is anything wrong with cheering for your country....I'd be lying if I said I didn't...I just don't do it to the exclusion of all other athletes.

When one of our athletes makes good I'm right there sayin' "In your face!" with everyone else biggrin.gif

My problem is just when it turns from healthy compition and respect to "My team better win" or cheating occurs...

I think someone put up a link to a site on the old OFPN forums to a Smurf site. This site was all about how this guy thought that the Smurfs was a communist based show meant to brainwash kids on the "benefits" of communism.

Pretty funny site. Too bad he was serious, lol.

Anyways, I think that the Canadian skaters deserve the Gold. We are all aware that the judges (at least the French one) were corrupted.
