Errm, where's my A-10 again?

Recommended Posts

This is kinda not related but what A-10 armament versions does the aircraft come in?

I've see the AGM-65 maverick carrying one but none of the others. Any GBUs, CBUs, Mk83s?

As far as i know there is no GBU version as someone made a config in the addons section to rectify this. I'll admit i'm amazed that there was no GBU official version wow_o.gif

I find it disappointing that the A-10 (for now, thank heavens for addon makers) has this rather strange ordinance. A typical A-10 loadout should be:

2 - AIM-9X outboard wing in a 2-rack. No combat aircraft in the air force takes off without some kind of A2A missile!

1 - ALQ whatever ECM pod far pylon other wing. Would just be a dummy model in ArmA obviously. Maybe some addon maker would make radar harder to target when you have this on.

6 - AGM-65 a pair of 3-racks with one rack about mid each wing. (in fact just 2, one under each wing is typical)

4 - CBU or Mk82 bombs in the center pylons. Fancy pants LGB and mavericks are expensive, would be nice to see some good ol' fashioned dumb iron bombs since they make the plane take skill to use, limit its God-like powers, and is realistic to book.

Ahh... guys it's hurts me to say but you all wrong, if you are waiting for those cutscenes or A-10 or missions with it in the upcoming patch. Don't foolish yourself and look through the content of that patch - nothing of mentioned above features isn't going to be included in it. Only engine fixes and MP compatibility issues expected to be implemented. Sorry !

The A10 will be included in the patch, it's required to make the games 100% MP compatable.

Actually it isn't surprising. We have the AV-8B with GBUs.

No its not. There is no reason for this peace of content to be so important for MP. How you imagine this ? As dog fights with A-10 ?

Its important for COMPATABILITY. Otherwise US users could play MP missions using the A-10, where-as EU/Asian players would be unable to connect because they wouldn't have the A-10. It would basically be a missing addon. Think about it...

May be yes may be no, but still A-10 is far not all the new stuff from CO, that will not be included in the next patch sad_o.gif

The A10 missions and new cutscenes won't be in the upcomming patch, Maruk even said so, but the A10 itself MUST be included or else the U.S. and rest-of-world copies will be (potentially) partially MP incompatable. In terms of exclusive content they can only go as far as missions and campaigns because won't be required for anything else to work, whereas addons like the A10 can and will be required for possible user created content (including both missions and addons) that will be shared freely with any other users. For any of this content to be compatable with every legitimate ArmA user the A10 must be available to said users. All official BIS addons should be considered as required for the games to be 100% compatable because they will often be required for other official and unofficial content to work properly. You might still not understand but I don't think anything you say will be taken seriously anyway because the rest of us have been down this road before and we know what to expect and we know the facts.

KyleSarnik, try not to burst a blood vessel in your head. Yes, the A-10 would have to be included in the patch if they want compatibility in MP. The smart of us among you agree with you, no questions.

The offline content can differ of course and there's no compatibility problem. If anyone is really crying over missing out on some offline content... wtf, have you SEEN BIS's offline content (single missions, cutscenes)? It's not worth it if they gave it away for free.

Another hilarious option (which I don't think BIS will pull simply because it's complicated code and they seem to have problems with some of the more advanced coding concepts) would be what the BF2 expansion packs did. The expansion packs were compatible with the vanilla game but also had "exclusive content." Basically Johnny FatWallet would buy the expansion and play it online getting all sorts of new goodies. The vanilla game-owning players would see Johnny's new toys but couldn't use them theirselves.

It would be like the A-10 only being flyable by people with ArmA:Combat Ops but everyone could see the plane fly around. It'd be silly and evil.

That's not how it worked. The expansions were NOT compatable with the 'vanilla' game (they functioned more like mods), and those 'new toys' you speak of were patched into the vanilla game, the files and data for them were installed for everyone who installed the patch and anyone could use them. The only thing was that, since EA is incredibly cheap, some content could be unlocked for players who spent a lot of money and time on their products, so even though everyone had the stuff installed some people were denied the ability to use it at will. I know for sure BIS wouldn't revert themselves to something so lame. Could you imagine having the A10 installed and not being able to use it in SP or in your own missions? Well I can't, that's just stupid.

Yeah basically you'd have vanilla BF2 and join a BF2:UberEdition server and everyone would be running around with cool gear you couldn't spawn with and shooting you with it. They paid for their tactical advantage... how nice.

I wouldn't think BIS would do that either. They're charmingly bumble-rific, not evil.

Combat Ops isn't an expansion. Something like that would make sense ONLY in the case of an expansion that's available to everybody (for purchase).

Expansions that are not available to everybody make sense to have their own versions, and seperate internet servers.
