charliereddog 9 Posted April 27, 2007 Hi, I've downloaded the US Demo and I'm getting quite erratic fps, as well as millisecond freeze's occasionally, most bizarrely when the fps is near the top of the range! My specs AMD 2.3ghz Processor 7600GS 256mb 1.5gb of RAM. Currently I'm running it on a 17" TFT at 1024x 786. The graphics aren't too bad, certainly much better than ofp, but I think I can probably push the fps up a little by tweaking the individual settings. Unfortunately, I don't have that much of an idea what impact each one has. I think the VD is about 2000. Cheers for your help.
nth1739 0 Posted April 27, 2007 Download the free version of FRAPS (www.fraps.com). Its a handy FPS utility that displays your frames per second in the top left corner of your screen. Start FRAPS then start ArmA. You notice yellow numbers in the top left corner of your screen displaying your FPS in game. Start a typical mission, then open your video setting menu. Start tweaking each setting and look at the FPS in the corner to see what impact the setting has. This makes tweaking much easier and faster since you dont have toggle in and out of the settings menu to see what kind of effect each setting has on your performance. I did this myself and found a the perfect balance between visual quality and acceptable FPS for my PC setup.

charliereddog 9 Posted April 27, 2007 Thanks, I've got Fraps, hence the fact i know what my fps is. Puma, thanks. I guess I'll wade through the 100 odd individual threads, 1000's of posts using the helpful search button should I? oh, thats right, it's no effing use. Have you any idea how many different mentions of fps/aa/pp etc there are? I *thought* someone might have a similar set up to me, and be able to give guidance. I'm still hoping so. BroK3n 0 Posted April 27, 2007 What Charlie means to say Puma is:"I'm a lazy git who can't be arsed using the search function." @TankTop Dont... Dont say things like that. @Charlie Though the search function is a bit general in its search... you could try out using different words that relate to what you're searching for to help in your search. Gotta make do with what we have

You on the other hand... @Broken. OK, I might try that, or might just fiddle with each setting as nth1739 suggested. Probably about the same waste of time either way. Mabes 0 Posted April 27, 2007 My settings are: Resolution: 1024x768 Terrain Detail: Low Object Detail: Normal Texture Detail: Normal Shading Detail: High Post Process Effects: Low Anisotropic Filtering: Normal Shadow Detail: Normal Antialiasing: Normal Blood: High Avg Frame Rate: 32 My specs are: Pentium 4 3.4GHz Kingston DDR400 HyperX RAM X2GB ATI Radeon x1600 PRO 512MB VRAM Creative SBlaster Audigy 2 ZS "Gamer" You can have the detail settings low, as long as your shading is up and it'll still look good. Dudester 0 Posted April 27, 2007 Ok, put most things on normal apart from whats listed below. The FPS killers are the ones listed below, so i would do what i have listed: shadows: off postprossessing: low Anti Alias: normal or low if running bad at normal Anisotropic filtering: low shading: low view distance: 1200 Btw, its best not to swear on these forums, as i'm sure you will be given a warning for it. charliereddog 9 Posted April 28, 2007 Mabes, Dudester. Cheers, I'll try with both your settings. Interesting to see that one advocates having shadows off, and one on. That's the reason why I found it so difficult trying to figure out the other technical threads, so many "do this", "no, that's a stoopid idea", "this works", "no it doesn't" type comments. And, if I get a box for swearing I'll be joining what seems to be a fairly illustrious club
