Curatalo 0 Posted April 23, 2007 Idea This mod is going to be based on the American Civil War, Between the North and the South. I am in need of Texturers and modelers mainly.    To start we need just the basics - a few muskets(.5 8 caliber Springfield musket and the .69 caliber Harpers Ferry Rifle, both muzzleloading arms that fired the deadly mini ball.) -A few handguns for officers (revolvers and muzzle loaded handguns.)               Eventually     When all the tools come out 1. A hole map based around the time of the Civil War( farms, trenches, churches, Forts) 2. Many different classes( Sharpshooter, Artillery crewman) 3.-"Edged Weapons"( Bayonets, sabers, swords, short swords, cutlasses, Bowie knives, pikes, and lances) 4. A few vehicles(Iron Plad ships, fairys, maybe even a carriadge.) 5.A decent sized community that enjoys all the hardwork+detication put into it all. 6. Gattling guns and Cannons. GIME FEEDBACK PEOPLE!! is this the right forum to be talking about this? or am i in the rong place....? abs 2 Posted April 25, 2007 Thanks for posting Mechs... apparently a lot of people are viewing this...but not posting... and I dont know iof they notice or not... but if they dont post... then this hole idea is goin down the drain =(....(PLEASE POST SO THIS THREAD DOESNT DISSAPEAR! Mods don't get completed by post counts, or page views. There's no point in continuing a thread if there's no work to back it up. I'd like to humbly suggest that you start working on the mod and posting WIP pics so that the thread doesn't dissapear. Abs

Those references are rather unimpressive, but I have better among my books already as it is (even before "googling" for images). Since I am interested in antique firearms I will commit to making an 1861 Springfield and a P'53 Enfield (with bayonets) since these were the most common types used by the two sides. If your mod is still on-going when these are done then you can have exclusive rights to them. I may be amenable to doing some other firearms after that (but no guarantees, as I have my own mod plans already). These will be UV mapped and textured. They will be constructed in Oxygen Lite, but if ArmA modelling tools are released while they are being done then improvements enabled by those tools will be incorporated as necessary. If this is unsatisfactory then say so now, otherwise allow at least 6 to 8 weeks for delivery (this in accordance with my usual rule-of-thumb; "Estimate time required, then double it and add 20%"). I can send you WIP images and progress updates periodically, if required (for examples of previous modelling work look at the thread entitled "SPEARHEAD" on this board) BTW. By "on-going" I mean you have a carefully thought out plan or have at least some other proper WIP to show. "On- going" does not mean "still thinking about it". Curatalo 0 Posted April 25, 2007 Thank you Faulkner. And please bring me temporary updates of the muskets. Â Also, where are you from and what time do you usually get on? If possile please tell me where you that Oxygen Lite modelling program( i guess). I googled it and couldnt find naything. Im sorry, i would be modelling but I have no program to do so =/! Cormega 0 Posted April 26, 2007 Sounds like a cool MOD, I'll be watching the progress....can't wait to see the old guns as well!

abs 2 Posted April 26, 2007 If possile please tell me where you that Oxygen Lite modelling program( i guess). I googled it and couldnt find naything.Im sorry, i would be modelling but I have no program to do so =/! Get Oxygen from here. As well, if you know how to use 3ds max, you can use that and then import it into Oxygen. Basically, you can model it in anything you want...but you turn it into an addon using Oxygen. Good luck. Curatalo 0 Posted April 26, 2007 Wooowwwww..... my PC is trippin ballz when i try to use that! i got like 90 errors and i had to just unplug the PC...
Ceriy 0 Posted April 27, 2007 You could contact the members of OFP Civil War mod and find out if they were going to continue working on their mod. If they will you could work with them. That would save you a lot of time, by using their addons, and only creating extra units you would like in game, instead of creating everything from scratch.
Stonewall Jackson 0 Posted April 27, 2007 don't worry.....We will be trying too port over our Mod from the original OFP when we 1) get the full version of the game. 2) get the new tools. hopefully we can all work together and get a fully funtional Mod going for ArmA. check out the links too our old Mod. Cormega 0 Posted April 27, 2007 willing schmilling, they don't have a choice, we are here to work together as a community to realize our common goal! I'm a history buff and Civil War nut, I'd like to provide any consultation that might be needed...historical accuracy, if you will.
ProfTournesol 956 Posted April 27, 2007 @ Curatalo : of course, as a former CWmod member and leading the Napoleonic mod at the moment, I do support this kind of ideas but you'll need much more than goodwill to lead a mod like this ! A good mod leader needs at least basic skills in configs (for single addons and for main game, config.bin and resource.bin), anims (config and creating anims), modelling, texturing, scripting, and a good understanding of missions and campaign editing, and most of the time map making... Because being the leader means being the guy that is working the more on the mod..and some times alone ! I don't want to discourage you from working on old fashioned mods, but they are far more skills demanding than modern ones... to turn around engine limitations. Maybe a more realistic way of doing would be working with Stonewall Jackson, who is now leading OFP Civil War mod, in order not to redo everything from scratch (as i did with Napoleonic mod re using some CWmod things with permission of former CWmod leader, Triglav and some old Napoleonic things from Spad). Anyway, good luck and good work !
JdB 151 Posted April 27, 2007 Quoting myself: "A mod leader needs to be sufficient/good in at least 3 of 6 disciplines (and preferably all): -Modelling -Texturing -Island making -Config writing/scripting -Animating -Sound-editing A modleader needs to be able (in a perfect world ) to make an entire addon from scratch. To both attract members (by showing nice work in progress screens) and to understand members' problems. That leaves building a website, but a website isn't essential to a mod, as forums can also help a great deal to promote your mod as well as communitysites I have seen many of these mod idea's, some great and others not, but most of those that survived did so because they had modleaders that knew what they were doing. You can't expect to post a message requesting someone make you this, while you lean back. The initiative needs to come from you. A good modleader is always twice as active as his members. You should learn the basics of Oxygen (modelling), Photoshop (or similar graphics application for textures) and WRPEdit (making islands) so that your mod may have a chance. If you think like "but I just want other people to make the mod for me'', then you are in the wrong community my friend Good luck " I didn't find out what your participation on this mod would consist of from the posts you made so far. Just being the "think-tank" of the mod when starting it yourself usually doesn't work. The following does lead me to conclude that you don't know how to model: Quote[/b] ]Im sorry, i would be modelling but I have no program to do so =/! It's not something you can master in a few weeks (takes most people over a year to get pretty good at it). It's not as easy as it may appear, besides the difficulties it is also a time-consuming affair.
