lose the Clock ray calling for direction... Most people wear digital watches these days.  A far more efficient means of describing direction is to use the following...

old------new

12          Front

1......      Slightly right

2....        quarter right

3...         half right

4/5...       Three quarters right

6......       rear

11...        Slightly left

10..        quarter left

9...         half left

7/8         three quarters left

old way...  Enemy T72 at 2 o'clock 200 metres.

new way.. Enemy T72 at quarter right 200 metres

Keep the clock. The more people who know how to tell the time, the better.

For fun, I sometimes use the ArmA analogue watch as a compass. Doing that with digital is a pain in the ass.

I like the old system too, but also use the new system in real life when spotting people.

Eg, Adsy at 10 moving through 12.

The old system is less complicated. Everyone knows the clock system, so why replace it with a new system thats basiclly the same thing, just less efficent? Its one of thoes "don't fix it, if its not broken" type things. Thats my opinion anyway.

I disagree... The left and right calls are less complicated and quicker for your brain to decode. I was taught both systems and the later one is becoming more popular as kids now are growing up with digital watches..

how about just using compass directions? North,East,South and West never change so if I'm not watching same direction as leader I still know where to look.

I like the clock system as it is authentic and still in use. However it confuses me sometimes as the 12 o'clock changes depending on what the leader is doing. When speaking over voice comms I always use compass headings.
