High-End Workstation and low fps

Recommended Posts

Hello, I had recently buy this outstanding game but although it runs pretty decent in clear areas it runs choppy in towns (like paradiso).

My video settings are normal, view distance is 3000m and screen resolution is 1280x720.

These are my system spec.

Motherboard ASUS NCT-D

Chipset 2x Xeon 3,6Ghz Nocona (HT)

4 Gbs RAM

GPU ATI FireGL v7100 (Drivers FireGL_Win2KXP_44078)

ARMA Benchmark results are:

Test One - 13.5886

Test Two - 14.2505

Test Three - 15.3206

Test Four - 11.6302

Test Five - 9.92917

OFPMark 1294.38

Other games like Day of Defeat, Ghost Recon, LOMAC, Silent Hunter, IL-2, etc run perfect at full detail.

So what do I need to do to make it run smooth?

Thxs in advance  smile_o.gif

Put everything to high? Thats how i get Arma to run smoothly and steady.. on a PC.

Low/normal = slower.

High = fast, smooth and steady.

huh.gif .

I really didnt notice big performance differences bettew low and high settings...but was not sure so I installed ATI Tray Tools to see real FPS.

Im playing 40-50fps best of the cases. Loaded Evolution 1.3a and it was 15-20fps in the airbase and 5-10fps in "paradiso" (1280x720 and high video settings).

It seems that this game is Direct3D accelerated whyle my card is OpenGL optimized. So...any hint to fix this mess?

Thxs

in Poland (and we are poor country) we found that after 1.05 patch ARMA works well on cheap and low PC instead good

i have AMD X2 3800, 2 GB Corsair extreme, Nvidia 7900 / 256 MB VGA card and i have a lot of problems with performance , especially on high settings

my firends have AMD one core 3500, they have 512 or 1024 of normal DDR2, they have Nvidia 7600 128 and they say that after patch their performance is very good

on my PC - i wonted to uninstal, because i couldn't play more than 15 minutes - lose textures, cubic models, lags (i posted some screens on this forum)

i know people with much better PC than mine (mine was bought specially for ARMA in december 2006) and they have problems

as it was told few times ARMA is game from XBOX, it doen's benefit for the moment from dualcore

there are advices like trun off second core and etc.

i really undestand you Michael

but this game at the moment has "very strange" engine in case of grpahics performance

my firend with poor PC play on "high", i have to play on "low" or "normal"

Well, although it performs poor it´s still playable. As this machine is mainly for work most of the time is rendering. Im thinking about picking a High-End gamer pc based on dual GPU sistem maybe SLI or Crossfire. What do you recommend?

my game is almost unplayeble..see my posts in tips tricks sticky

EDIT: and for some reason I can't even run ofp with dxdll. what should my view distance be with my posted specs?

SS bung in a 8800 GTS and bin the 7600,

your CPu is way faster than mine, but my GPu is allowing me good times in arma.

I'm starting to think dual core anything equals headache with ARMA.

ARMA and rainbow 6 both paid off for me being a cheapskate and not buying a x2 core last year ;}. Although my single core sucks in Supreme Commander.

funny

my friend from my city has AMD 3500 (one core) and ATI RAdeon 7600 (2 years old) and he has no problem with game ?

while I with 2 GB DDR2, Nvidia 7900, AMD X2 3800 (clocked up to 2.2 GHZ) have sometimes in 1.05 texture loss after 15 minutes

vilas are you running ntune or nvidia memory manager?

Im almost sure they cause the issue for some nvidia users. I dropped them switched to beta 105 arma and beta 02 nvidia drivers and can't get the LOD bug anymore.

What's odd is in hardware on my machine I have a big fat yellow ? next to PCI memory controller and SM bus controller. Both caused by deleted ntune and nvidia memory manager.

My machines works great!!!!!

My best ARMA mark so far is 3200, which is low compared to some i suspect my CPU. But I can max out at 1280x1024 and enjoy or drop some stuff at 1600x1024.

someone on this forum said it is good

here are some pics from my PC:

if FTP works :/

but i had turn all to "low" althoght i think "low" should be for computers listed in game box as "minimal requirements" not for mine PC

Note to the guy with 2 processors (as me) windows xp 32 bit only supports one processor. If you want to take vantage of both them you need to use xp 64 bit. I tryed to install Arma in my 64 bits to see if it runs better but i couldnt test it coz it gives the d3dx.dll error and I cant update my directx coz my router has no windows xp 64 drivers. Anyway windows xp 64 says its directx 9c so crazy_o.gif

i havent got any idea that 2 core only for 64

in shope they told me that dual core will give me power more than 20% thain in one core

so it is not true huh.gif what they told me in shop ?

other issue:

someone told me that performance in PL version can be f*** by starforce in PL version

is it true ?

i make addons, i know some about modellig, but as "informatics" and computer-knowledge i am green :/

Thing is vilas your PC would kick my PC's but in Supremme Commander.

A single core lags like hell at around 100 on screen units in hig res.

DUO and x2 cores can push to 300+ before they start to lag.

So for RTS games Duo and x2 cores really kick butt. For FPS its a bit hit and miss. I'm surprised that BIH have not threaded ARMA or made it SLI optomised.

The joke is a single core seems to give great results in ARMA, but I'll have to bin my single core by september when Crysis hits. Looks like a single core will suck in Crysis, bioshock etc.

Right not not many games have real ebenfits from x2 or DUO cores. In 12 months time they might be regarded as the min spec.

I've heard that starforce rumour as well. Blizzard balme starforce for wow bugs with x2 cores. Caused mass crashes for months took Blizzard ages to track it down.

A x2 core can deliver upto 70% performance over a single core.

You can encode a DVD and a play a game at the same time. this is a sure fire way of REALLY upsetting a single core PC.

Its even worse for QUAD core owners, many Duo's ouperform the Quads on most current DX9 games. For actual quad core software like 3D Studio Max a quad core is stupidly fast, upto 5x faster than a single core 3GHZ Pentium 4! But right now not much help in games.

DX10 Vista Crysis / Alan Wake etc should change all this.

i would be nice to here comment from BIH on If and when X2 Duo and Quad optomisatiosn could be added to the ARMA engine or even GAME 2. And SLI/Crossfire.

Even if BIH are talking to Intel/AMD Nvidia about these issues.

The duo portal for games that have DUO optomisation (not a big list yet really!wink_o.gif

What I meant is that xp-32 only recognize 1 phisical processor...my machine has 2 phisical processors. Both have HyperThreating so in task manager in windows 32 I monitor 2 processors and in windows 64 I monitor 4 proccesors.

Other tip windows 32 only supports up to 4 Gbs of RAM whyle xp-64 support as many RAM as you want.

XP and games often has fun over 3 GB.

4BG is fine in 3d studio etc, but for games over 3gb seems to have issues in XP. Sorted in vista from what I have read.

Yep a Dual Processor mobo means 2x CPU's not 1 CPU with 2 cores ;}

I feel like i've waisted $50 on a game that just is way too buggy.

I've tried every possible combination of graphic settings...all look cartoonish.

I even dl the driver for the Nvidia Geforce 6600 gt to be safe.

I'm able to run COD, Red Orchestra, WOW, CODUO, Halflife all maxed out settings...

this game...I'm lucky to make out the grass at times...

so far just 2 out of 10 for me....it looked so promising too.

Gotta be a setting somewheres.Either your still running virus software while playing the game. You have spyware or something

I am playing Armed Assault on a laptop.

Windows XP Home

AMD A64 4000+ CPU

1 GIG Ram

and get this ...ATI Raedon x600 video card with 256ram

As of patch 1.05 all plays fine.Matter of fact I turned terrain quality down to low and its real smooth now.I was playing at normal

My laptop is even on powersave mode

CPU speeds up/down as needed

Originally I started playing on home pc..

AMD X2 4200+ CPU

1 Gig Ram

x800pro video card

That was few months ago, played about the same as my laptop that I recall
