Hidden 0 Posted February 11, 2002 During the weekend (or was it friday?), I managed to wipe my main disk clean, 25gb of (to me) precious and very valuable data gone in seconds. Don´t ask me how I did it, please. I lost Red Hammer too, of course, and have to buy it a second time. Not that I have anything against CM, but I wish they had another system so that I could just login and download it up to 3 times or something. Well, what has been done cannot be undone, anyway. In addition to the excellent campaign, I lost many songs I was working on, a few websites and a huge list of username and passwords to various places on the net. Backup, what backup? Huh?? What´s even worse must be that I did not even cry when it happened, just left the room for half an hour then went back, formatted and installed Win2k again.. ready to collect as much data from my own memory as possible So for it´s going pretty well, actually, and Red Hammer is cheap, fortunately. But from now I will do a backup at least once a week, everybody should do it. And it was not all bad anyway, I was tired of my own songs and now I get a fresh start. I´ve got ADSL connection now, have just downloaded the stand-alone server as well. Am looking forward to finally have some fun online with OFP. If you see someone with a nickname like crouching tiger or revealed dragon, and he is a really bad shot, it is probably me. Just turn around and walk away *G* This site seems pretty dead lately, everybody waiting for OFP 2 or the much talked about VBS inspired add-on / expansion due to be released this summer? I still have faith in OFP. Look up www.ofp2.com and guess who´s the owner of the domain name I am sure about OFP 2, it will come sooner or later. People need games like this when the get tired of shoot´em ups IMO. Regards Hidden

multimedia 0 Posted February 11, 2002 When I came back to work after my last summer holiday I saw my desk empty... My PC wasn't there anymore, so WTH I thought !! I went to talk to IT guys and they told me that a collague of mine had his kid with him at work and he let him to play with my PC. The momet he switched it on the "genie came out".. MB, hard disk, disaplay card, everything went up in a smoke. We do have a rule to save everthing important to our servers but guess what...
Gorgi Knootewoot 0 Posted February 11, 2002 Once upon a time..... I mean once in the two weeks i make a backup on CD All the data collected from the internet what's important, like patches, utilities etc. i place in a temp directory, and burn it on a CD so when i format i can use it quickly. I mark and sort everything carefully, so i don't have thousands of files and cannot find it. Everything is placed in subdirectory's so it is easy tho find . Saved games i burn on a CD-R once in two weeks, because when i exidently format, or saved game is corrupt i don't have to start all over agin. BTW... i am in RedHammer mission where you have to build base, place fences etc. It is very difficult and i cannot complete it i need hints plz. am i near completion of the campaign, and when do i go over to the American side? Russian campaign my ass.... defecting to the other side makes it an allied campaign
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 11, 2002 Nah the last time I've backed anything up was about 10 years ago.

Regards Hidden<span id='postcolor'> I once had a minor problem with something, probably a virus i got off the sodding school network. My dads answer to this? re format. At this point i was 3 levels away from completing opf for the first time, had almost completed crimson skies for the first time (bastard gyrocoptors), and generally was almost completing loads of games. I had all my business coursework on there which i find now would be very useful for my current business coursework, about 1gb of unreal tournament data and mods, levels, skins... (this was back in the day when i had to dl stuff to floppy disk and transfer it to my own, non internet computer) as well as a few cool videos i'd downloaded. Much to my dismay did i come home from school one day to find my dad starting fdisk up. Even though i argued a very good case, he still did it i felt so upset

Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted February 11, 2002 Reminds me of the "burning bibliothek (library) of Alexandria"!
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 11, 2002 It doesn't remind me of that. It reminds me of the time I had to delete my whole Windows directory in DOS.
jaxx 0 Posted February 11, 2002 I thought you could download red hammer...? http://codemasters.digitalmediadownload.com/RedhammerENG.exe
nordin dk 0 Posted February 11, 2002 that's weird... Is that all of the Red Hammer campaign? (Not that it matters much to me, cos I bought it when it came out)
jaxx 0 Posted February 11, 2002 Yes, but be warned the cm uses c-dilla to protect it's software.
nordin dk 0 Posted February 11, 2002 I wouldn't download it ( or let's say, I wouldn't admit to it ), but it strikes me as odd that it could be that simple. What is c-dilla?
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 11, 2002 You have to pay for it you know.
jaxx 0 Posted February 11, 2002 When you try and install it, it asks for a key, which is given to you by codemasters confirming your purchase. c-dilla, which is installed when you run the downloaded file, prevents you from making copies of copyrighted material. In other words, it fucks up your cd-r.
nordin dk 0 Posted February 11, 2002 I did pay for it, when I bought it off of the Codemasters website. Just in case that was for me Damage I bet there are a lot of smartasses out there who knows how to crack that download, and that's why I'm surprised it's so easily available.
