Claymore 0 Posted April 10, 2007 Hello guys, I don't have Armed Assault yet but want to get it one of the following days, is already some time released here in Belgium. But I have a couple of questions first. How do the planes fly? Are they better or worse to handle then in Operation Flashpoint? And I mean the planes not the choppers! I have a Pentium 3Ghz Dual core with 2 gigs of ram and a Geforce 7300GT with 256Mb, is that PC good enough for Armed Assault or do I need to upgrade? And is it possible to use add-ons from Operation Flashpoint with Armed Assault?? I have SO MANY add-ons for OFP, wish and hope to use atleast some of them in Armed Assault! Thanks in advance and best regards, Claymore.
Heatseeker 0 Posted April 10, 2007 The planes fly much better than OPF but this is still not a flight sim, you can do rolls and loops, its much more fun and fast. Pentium 3 gig dual core being a pentium D? I think your specs look ok but the graphics card might not be up to the job... Some OPF addons have been converted by addon makers but only a few, there are many new features in Arma and the current game handles "things" diferently, not every OPF addon is up to the current Arma standard or even worth converting imo. sirex 0 Posted April 10, 2007 the 7300 should be ok, people are using 128mb 6600Gt's, its just youll be on low/medium setings like the rest of us and not high/crazy like the 8800 users.
alx 20 Posted April 10, 2007 As stated above, ArmA is not a flight sim (and to make it one would have huge CPU overheads that would ruin the rest of the game). Thus the flight models are laughable. If you know nothing about flying, you'll find them just fine. If you know a bit about flying, you'll have a groan, a laugh and then, hopefully, just shrug your shoulders and get on with walking. Ask yourself, how realistic is the driving in ArmA/OFP? Well, the flight models are even worse.
max power 21 Posted April 10, 2007 I disagree that because the flight model is simple it is not enjoyable. There's lots of fun to be had.
Dallas 9 Posted April 10, 2007 It's not Microsoft Flight Simulator nor is it laughable, it's fun and it forces you to improve various skills to become a decent alround pilot. ArmA doesn't substitute a real life flight school, so if you're thinking of persuing a pilot carrer, I recommend you also take some real flight lessons too. Atleast 4. Jets handle well wheter you fly with mouse+keyboard or joystick, but you have to invest some time to configuring controles. You also should learn to navigate by map/GPS, fly using HUD and train landings in the editor. I think some are already porting OFP addons, others are waiting for tools to be released, but I'm not the right person to ask about addons.
b1sh0p 0 Posted April 10, 2007 I didn't fly much, if at all in OFP, but I fly choppers and jets quite a bit in ArmA. Â As for the jets, compared to games like Falcon 4, it's not very realistic at all. Â I know you didn't ask about helos, but from people I've talked to who actually fly helocopters IRL, they say the flight model is not too bad. Of course the controls in general are quite simplified, but the actual flight model for helos is pretty good. This is definately not an air sim though. Â It's not a tank sim either, for that matter. Â Seems to me the only thing this game simulates well is infantry. Â Everything else is kind of arcadish. That's not to say that you can't have fun in the jets, choppers, or tanks. Â I have a blast at all 3. Â But it's definately not realistic. As for your computer, you'll be able to run it fine. Â Maybe not full graphics, but you can scale it down to a happy medium range and run it just fine on that rig.
