Spec4ce Skins

Recommended Posts

I don't know if you guys are familiar with this, but let me introduce you to Spec4ce.

I did a bunch of skins like this one for GR:AW and I'm just learning how to mod ArmA. Hope you like it. Given enough time (and if people are interested, I can release a few of these as a mod).

Its good for the north of the island.

Despite all the technobabble on their site, those

Spec4ce "Forest" and "Woodland" patterns look

amazingly (and suspiciously) like digitised British DPM

(which says a lot for the two artists who first designed

DPM in the early 1960s)   tounge2.gif

Now if only the ArmA U.S. Army would reequip with that

digital one for the war in N. Sahrani!     whistle.gif

I'm just learning how to edit configs - which seems pretty strait forward, so hopefully the US army will be equipped with this soon smile_o.gif

Look at this picture, its from 25m away. The woodland is easy to spot but the spec4ce soldier stands out due to his face and hands.

And as far as the DPM, I think there was a references somewhere else on their website praising the DPM design so maybe you're right about that...

EDIT: I just emailed the person who designed these, Guy Cramer. He was a GR:AW fan so hopefully he'll stop by and check these out.

You making other variants also? Like the arid stuff and such, and maybe the SOPAT III patterns... I really like the idea and few of the patterns (both Spec4ce and SOPAT).

And to the units themselves. Pic looks blurry, maybe to achieve the camo effect, but I like what you've done so far. Could be a tad sharper for close-in (well... no needed due to nature of the game), but looks really ace.

And since I CBA to PM you ( tounge2.gif), any chance to get the pattern for OFP, maybe (I've tried but the results...)? Or atleast the texture...

I agree with the bluriness issue, then again Screenshots sometimes come out bad so that could be a reason. There were some nice camos on that site, I especially liked that "Metro" one. Well, good work so far, keep it up smile_o.gif

Yep, its the pictures...it looks much better than that in-game.

And yes, I do intend to make other variants like the desert and urban ones. I'll be keeping people posted.

As for OFP textures...I have no plans, since OFP isn't on my computer anymore.

As a side note, Guy Cramer (the developer of the pattern) probably won't be stopping by here. He sent me an email explaining that his patterns have been licenced for another game that is in production (Rogue Warrior, Zombie Studios) and they asked him not to mod games anymore (he made a bunch of skins for GRAW).

Give it your own name and say it just resembles Spec4ces patterns if people say you cant.

Also what scorpy meant was is there any chance of getting a hold of the actual base textures for this.

Good point. Actually I think Guy is cool with it. I gave him the link to this thread and he once told me as long as I'm not making money on making these, he dosn't mind smile_o.gif

Oh, and sure the base textures can be distributed easily.

Here is another pattern I'd like to release. This is an "all terrain" tiger strip (Tiger AT-1) pattern designed for spec ops (Its labeled wrong in the game-oops).

Slowly but surely, I'm making progress on this.

Sorry, real life has put modding off to the side. I'm getting married in July (to an authentic Russian, no less), just got a new job and I'm looking for a house. I honestly haven't even played ArmA in over a week now.

I'm essentially ready to release what I have but its not much. Basically just the Spec4CE woodland guy and the Tiger AT-1. I have completed an ACU-like tiger stripe pattern for multiple environments that I didn't post pictures of. I also have a Tiger AT-2 and Spec4CE desert partially done.

Just as a kind of funny side note, my fiancee gets pissed at me when I play OFP because of the Americans killing Russians in the campaign.

Play Redhammer or even better custom made Retalliation campaign, if shes russian you can have fun playing the russian language version and have her explain the briefings to you wink_o.gif

Haha, yeah I've tried that a couple times with COD2. The last time I was in Russia, her cousin (who happens to be a BTR-80 gunner) gave me his COD2 copy but its a Russian language version only. Marina has trouble with the military terms. She doesn't know how to translate them, but she's learning.

She is actually a Russian-English interpreter.

In any case, if somebody was willing to work on these skins, I'd be happy to send what I have along. The camo texture overlays are done for most of the patterns - that is if somebody doesn't want to wait for me to finish them.

JanMasterson: thanks. I'll have to post up pictures in the OT section when I get them.
