RUC most definately. There's a Ferret in the back so it can't be that old. One of those early uparmoured landrovers?

Yep its RUC, but not a landrover and the vehicle in the background is older than a ferret.

Yeah, you're right, vehicle in the back is a Dingo.

Yep.

Its a fv1609 one of the 10 prototype Pigs bought for the RUC in 1958, they were uparmoured in 1960 to be more like the fv1611 mk2 pigs.

British riot control vehicle last used sometime in the 60's to deal with those menacing hippies?

Judging from the color scheme on the vehicles behind it, it's a  freakin Yorkshire police vehicle!

*Edit*

Seems I was right.  Only maybe more used on the Irish then the hippies.  It looks to be a Shorland.

"The Shorland is an armored car based on long wheelbase Landrover chassis and built by Short Brothers of Belfast."

it could be a shorland as they were based on the 109's as well as the 110's. The problem is that shorland made a fair few designs, so shorland is a bit ambiguous, although this line make sme think it could be:

Quote[/b] ]This type of the Shorland was still patrolling the streets as late as 1988.

To the untrained eye, all battleship grey Royal Ulster Constabulary Land Rovers look the same, but the Shorland armoured personnel vehicle is actually quite easy to spot, due to its single piece armoured crew tub sides with a fold line, were the usual Land Rover barrelling should be located and the inward sloping tuck of the lower body sides.

and as you can see, it's got folded sides, rather than the barreling of the normal land rovers. If it is, then I think that particular shorland was the Short MB501

If it isn't, then some of the early 109 series 3 names for RUC land rovers are:

Makrolon

Hotspur

both looked similiar to the army's VPK series 3, sometimes refered to as the piglet after it's bigger brother the Humber Pig.

The land rovers in the background are more likely to be RUC Tangi's in battenberg print rather than a yorkshire vehicle (although I know they bought some from the RUC after the ceasefire). The Tangi's were made in house by the RUC.

Meh close enough fella.

Quote[/b] ]It's a Shorland SB301. The improvised windscreen armour is because the original visors & vision blocks were removed before entering RUC to comply with the requirements of the Hunt Report.

There were only 3 of this mark in RUC service, MOI 1007, MOI 2688 & MOI 3481. These were withdrawn from service by the end of 1990. The later Shorland APVs were SB401 & had the radiator further forward to accomo

So im not sure who gets it, yes it is a "shorland" but it isn't your bog standard one, just to trying to "up" the challenge biggrin_o.gif

well scatterbrain got the shorland bit, I just added that it wasn't your average shorland, but given there were only 3 made/used it was a little tough to track down.

scatterbrain can go for it if he so wishes, he got the general gist - considering he didn't fall into the trap of calling it a Tangi or a Simba as well, its a close as I got.

anyway, pre wolf land rovers bore me biggrin_o.gif

Thanks Messiah.  It was a pretty good answer for a few mins of research by a Yank eh?  wink_o.gif

Sidenote: I saw all of the Landrovers on the PUKF.net website.  Hope to see them in ArmA.

Ok heres my submission:

Yeah, pretty good - there was a very easy trap to fall into with that one, hence why nick probably chose it. Lannies will be arma, no worries.

a full symphony orchestra playing the Jaw's theme? I'm awful with naval stuff, so I doubt I'll tag this one

Hmm, the photo seems to have made this one hard.

The mention of "whats missing" is a hint, as is the distinctive groove along the hull.

Its a WWII German Midget Submarine called "Biber", translates as "beaver" I beleive.

Whats missing is 2x G7 torpedoes.

@Messiah - you've actually seen one of these in the Imperial War Museum last time we met up a for a drink!

This may be too easy for some.  But it was a prototype, it never flew but it did play a key role in the Aerospace Industry.

lol - ffs, the picture really didn't allow for any scale, so It was a tad confusing as to what it is - I recognise it now

hmm, the jet seems to have different bits and bobs off several british aircraft (or at least in appearance - so I'm likely to be wrong)

Guess I'll start searching the BAE site
