DieAngel 0 Posted March 17, 2007 it's funny cause binocs are nothing more than a scoped rifle without bullets, and i remember being able to move with a scoped rifle
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted March 17, 2007 it's funny cause binocs are nothing more than a scoped rifle without bullets, and i remember being able to move with a scoped rifle No, it's a little different, it has it's own set of anims, that's what makes it different and that's why you're unable to move with them, because it doesn't include animations for forward/backward/sideways movement, only static and stand/crouch/prone. Engine wise it's entirely possible, but content wise it's not available.
MamiyaOtaru 1 Posted March 17, 2007 I think an anim for binoculars the same as m136 would be nice. IE when you walk, you lower your binos until you stop moving again, same with laser desg. This way you don't have to go through the clumsy inter-anims to move a foot to the right because a bush was in the way.. +1 This would be a great fix. No need to have a "lower binocs" key, just lower them automatically when the player m.oves and bring them back up when he stops. Actually, don't lower them at all if the player takes a trivial step to the side. Lower them after movement of more than a foot (1/3 meter) or so. On can easily shift his position to get around a branch without the need to put them down/invoke an animation at all. Longer movements should cause them to be lowered. This would be a lot more natural than switching to the gun and back imho.
Tracer 0 Posted March 17, 2007 Amazing how no one mentions that fact that you can't use binoculars in armoured vehicles (Commander) when unbuttoned either? -you could in say, M1TP2.Anyway, There is an age-old 'bug' still present in ArmA that was present in OFP Â You have your weapon on 'burst' or 'full' prior to using bins ok. then select bins have a lookie around, see enemy and need to drop him pronto. Switch back to main weapon and it's......yep back to 'semi' mode. Only single round fire... Â (guns must ALL have worn fire mode switches) How many times i've been killed because of that annoying 'bug'!!! Why hasn't this been addressed? ...maybe because you didn't reported this "bug" ? it's been known/reported since OFP! It was well documented back then but it's shocking to find it still exists in ArmA -yes i know ArmA is OFP with an HDR 'coat'.
monkeyboy27 0 Posted March 17, 2007 It should be in there, just for moving slightly. You can run about with your eye to a rifle scope, so theres no reason you shouldn't be able to do it with binoculars as well. I don't even think theres a need to animate him lowering them, all they need to do is make them go wobbley and unusable, the same as the sniper scopes do when you walk with them. Nobody would be able to run around looking through them constantly, it'd just help us shift about a bit when objects get it the way of our spotting.
d3dsh33p 0 Posted March 17, 2007 another problem is when you dont have a weapon and you want to go to the binocs it goes thru some strange animations before he fiunaly settles with the binoculurs
Blanco 0 Posted March 18, 2007 Also, when you change your position from standing to crouch (or prone) while you're watching through the binocular, he always takes his weapon for a moment before he starts crouching. Very anoying. Also a bug with the laserdesignator & binocular. When you select your binoc while you're watching through a laserdesignator, no anim changes are made. Chris Death 0 Posted March 19, 2007 Well, an idea for mobile binocs could be a binocular addon but configured as a secondary weapon. That way all the animations would be there in combo with the binocs. ~S~ CD
bravo 6 0 Posted March 19, 2007 i agree. we should be able to use binoculars while we are in vehicle. examples: while we were inside a jeep as cargo, as commander of a tank, even in mg seat (hummers.. etc)
Heatseeker 0 Posted March 19, 2007 I think making it possible to move with the binoculars in hand (but not looking thru them) would be the better solution, it would improve upon the not so great workaround done to the laser designator, where if you select it you are forced to look thru its targeting sight, worse than OPF imo ... StardogChampion 0 Posted March 19, 2007 I dont understand why someone would walk and look thru binoculars simultaniously... i agree with Mr. Zig, walking while holding the binoculars would be usefull but looking thru them?! He doesn't want to walk 2km with binocs on. He only wants to be able to move with the binocs on, because when you are hiding somewhere and you want to use binocs, often there is something in the way (mostly some bushes) and then you need to put the binocs down and walk 10 cm to the side, then put them back on to look thru them whether the bush is still obstructing your view - and because it is still obstructing your view, you need AGAIN put binocs down, AGAIN move 10 cm to the side, and AGAIN try to use binocs and hope that you finally see something. And i agree with him, this is often VERY annoying. Sure it depends on gameplay, someone doesn't need binocs at all, someone have the habit to use them while bravely standing in the middle of widespread free flat space like he's wanting to be shot, but we, recon soldiers, or snipers, are often using them while hiding in some bushes, etc. Agreed. We need to be able to move slowly while holding binocs. I was looking out a church window that has those annoying windows with small slits to look through, and often the road would be blocked by the window and you couldn't adjust your position.
