JudgeDredd 0 Posted February 28, 2007 How bloody infuriating. I mean...we all want realism right? But sometimes, in a game, just sometimes, you need a little help...just to get over the limitations at playing a game on a 2D screen instead of having your situational awareness in real life! I am on the mission where I'm in a convoy of Strykers and we have to go and destroy some Shilkas...only problem is, the automatic save loads at a point where JUST as the Strykers stop to offload us....no sooner do I get out, than the Stryker explodes and takes me with it...all because there are 2 T72s coming up fast from behind!! So I can't order my squad out, let alone select my AT men to attack the T72s!!! And I've loaded the mission about 20 times now....each time I get out and BANG...Strykers goes up before I've told my squad to disembark. I know this is pretty much how it could happen in RL....but in a game, you have a second, third, fourth...chance...but not here...because each chance loads and plays out exactly the same way! I mean...honestly! Give me a break. As the title says...pure brilliance and yet so screwed up!!!
BroK3n 0 Posted February 28, 2007 chill man chill... try restarting the mission and do it again. It's still in the beginning part of the mission anyways. good luck.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted February 28, 2007 If you load the mission from a save point you have to expect everything to pick up exactly as it left off when the game was saved. If the T72 was already getting ready to blast your vehicle to hell when it saved then it's going to be ready each time you load it, or even worse the round was already flying towards its target, in which case if it was a good shot the first time then prepare to die every time. The less time after you load it the less chance there is for it to play out differently. Start the mission over from the beginning and it will surely play out somewhat differently. Usually auto saves are linked to events, waypoints, triggers, etc... if you restart from the beginning chances are it will save at a slightly different time and definately under slightly different circumstances. ArmA and OFP have a reputation for not playing out exactly the same way each time because there are many (and I mean a lot) random occurences that effect the way the rest of the mission plays out - ex. the Strykers may have gotten slowed down a bit or the T72s took a slightly different path than usual or something took less or more time than usual, or it can even come down to a soldier/vehicle facing a different direction and noticing you faster. Infam0us 10 Posted February 28, 2007 Stop whining The truth is ARMA has a lot of unecessary controls, and stuff that you simply don't need. They went from the simple OFP stuff to ARMA. For example, instead of using the mouse wheel for commands like salute, you have a button, which is stupid. Once you bother to rename all the controls, its not that bad, but still stupid. I don't play it for other reasons though. Its funny, the devs say they are gamers, yet no gamer uses their default controls. What kind of gamer uses space for commands? Space should be like in OFP, for changing the weapon.

Dashkatt 0 Posted February 28, 2007 Don't fret, that mission was FUBAR from the start. I don't know which BIS person did the beta on the AI driving, but it must have been Stevie Wonder.
808 0 Posted February 28, 2007 AA definitely seems to have quite a few ai bugs as well. For example... Number 8 kept staying still, because I didn't know which soldier it was I decided to go on a killing spree. Eventually I found him standing perfectly still, restarted the mission and before I was ordered to get in the vehicle I shot the little git in the face. (btw, restarting the mission he still did the same thing) The pathing problems that were in OFP are still present in AA, its been a few years since OFP and yet the engine still has the same problems. JudgeDredd 0 Posted March 1, 2007 The reason I didn't want to start the mission from the beginning again is because it takes an age to get to where the action is....as a previous poster says, because Stevie Wonder is driving. Anyway...managed to get out with half my squad intact...now running to the bridge with 3 lads!

I didn't notice it in the manual myself, but you have to press - and + to change time acceleration. Without time acceleration I would not be playing this game. quiet_man 8 Posted March 2, 2007 this is a simple bug from the "disableAI" command, which fails when the mission is loaded from a saved state at mission start the T-72 are stopped by "disableAI", they should attack later in the mission By loading the mission from the restore point, they will start their attack to soon and you are toast. Do a complete restart of the mission and avoid loading from the restore points (or wait for 1.5 ) QuietMan
