icebreakr 3159 Posted February 26, 2007 Why do Harriers need laser designator on ground if it is clear that they carry LANTIRN (laser marking system) pod on right inboard?
og.. 0 Posted February 26, 2007 BIS never answers direct questions like that im afraid, however valid
wamingo 1 Posted February 26, 2007 My guess is it's because BIS wanted it to have the added challenge. You can still drop them without laser, but on eye coordination only. I haven't seen the hud though, perhaps you get some guidance? The hud seems to be missing according to suma (says it would fixed in 1.05).
max power 21 Posted February 26, 2007 Obviously this isn't a harrier simulator.
icebreakr 3159 Posted February 27, 2007 Damage of GBU is also a bit controversial. In multiplayer two harriers supported a group on the ground (typical CAS operation) and we had an order to take down entire town of Obregan (no civils remaining in the area)... we dropped entire load of GBUs on the town but an M1A1 on the ground did more damage singlehandedly :/
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted February 27, 2007 Ive had great fun in 1.02 coop multiplayer flying the harrier and bombing whatever targets the soldiers on ground pointed me to. Can't remember the mission name, but I killed a chem factory, hangars etc. One bomb will kill multiple tanks etc. Sure, a tank can make alot more damage in a city, if there is no enemy to kill it. You can do that in real life as well. The point of having the harrier with lgbs is simply to engage targets which is yet not safe to engage from ground. icebreakr 3159 Posted March 23, 2007 Yeah, we practice lasers & bombs now... they are crazy cool, especially when infantry squad is shaking on the ground with five t72s approaching and seconds later.... KABLAAM, burning fields and infantry yelling happily on teamspeak
Dallas 9 Posted March 23, 2007 You need a Laser designator and batteries(! ) to use the AV-8B(GBU) effectively.
xav 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Report it as a bug on the bugtracker, and you might have a chance to see it fixed someday...
Jake the Snake 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Any hints on the manual (visual) aiming (no designator) of the GBU (Mk-84s or whatever) bombs?
4 IN 1 0 Posted March 23, 2007 Any hints on the manual (visual) aiming (no designator) of the GBU (Mk-84s or whatever) bombs? not quite, untill BIS themself (or any modders) have the mood to creat a more realistic HUD system for plane so that we could drop unguided bombs more easily, heck, even those good old fighter sim do that

Allthough, I'm sure people would say it would be too easy then...
