Is the GBU-12 laser guided?

Recommended Posts

If so, how do you lock up a target?

edit: How do i use the GBU-12 with the Harrier, to be more specific.

Ah you need to put out an SF Recon to laze it.

Given that the AV-8B already has LITENING, that'd be kind of moot.

We just can't self designate our bombs (yet).

Could this be done by script, lets say that someone plants a tracker that gives the pos, and then you can find it from whereever in your bombplane?

The only way I'd know of doing it would be to have LITENING as a turret with a laser in it, controllable by a gunner.

Well that’s close enough to the real thing, the only problem is that there is no gunner so it has to be done by the pilot which will need a new control system especially if your going to make the LITENING view appear on one of the MFDs instead of fullscreen.

I have seen plenty of modern aircraft that do use stuff like IR TV's for aiming, oh well, guess we'll just have to use them like the OFP bombs for now and just randomly drop them when it feels right if there are no laser designators.

For the player as a pilot, the "stuka" technique (climb high enough then dive on the target when approaching it) worked nicely in OFP to get a successfull LGB bombing run when there was no laser designation.

Well, at least the new view distance will allow this "Stuka" technique to be used more successfully.

the problems with this though:

1:will not look right(Obviously this isn't the biggest concern)

2:not the most accurate way
