SUGGESTION ABOUTM

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody, I will be soon a future gamer of Armed assault and like someone else I'm going to buy a new pc closer to the release date of the game.

So I would like to have some suggest,critics,comments... in a few words -- what you think about the machine I'm going to buy.

These are the specific for my future pc:

--CPU06= INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6300 Socket 775 2Mb (1066Mhz FSB) BOX

--RAM04= DIMM 2x1GB DDR2 667 PC5300 TWINMOS

--HD09= HD 320 GB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SERIAL ATA2 16Mb Cache 7200rpm

--MBI05= ASUS P5LD2 C, Intel945P, Socket775, 1066Mhz Fsb, 4DDRAM II, 3xUDMA100, 4xSERIAL-ATA, PCI-Express16X, ATX, USB 2.0, Sound 7.1, Lan

--500 Watt power supply

--Graphic card= NVIDIA GeFORCE 7900GT PCI-EXPRESS 256MB GDDR3 VIDEO OUT

FLOPPY/DVD RW....

I know this is not the very top of performance machine but I'm also looking for a good quality/price rate.

Two more Question:

1) Should be usefull to have two hard disk with less capacity (180GB each) but configured in RAID for better game purpose???

2) About power supply, it is necessary to reach 500W considering that Nvidia Graphic cards sucks like bitches or I can chose a less powerfull unit??

That's all!!!! fell free to answer and tell me what you think and give any kind of suggestion so I will be able to run ARMA at a accettable smooth level

Bye everybody and thanks!!!

Your CPU isnt too bad, though ArmA doesnt support Dual Core yet... But if support is implemented in future that will run good...

Nice amount of RAM

Hard drives dont have much effect on performance according to the devs of ArmA...

Im not too sure about the role of the power supply... but i think the higher the wattage the more stable the PC is? or something like that.. also allows for you to overclock in future or allows for upgrades with more power consumption to be added in future...

The graphics card seems quite expensive from what i've seen.. and it doesnt look like you get your money's worth...

Take a look at a ATI Radeon X1950 PRO 256/512mb (google it and take a look)

The graphics card will have the solely biggest effect on the game... the better your graphics card is.. the much better the game performs... you just need a good CPU to feed it with what it wants =) and your CPU should be capable...

Im not a hardware guru though wink_o.gif so wait for some other responses smile_o.gif

Thank you jack for your reply.

Well, I decided for a dual core just because I've seen that in my country they are taking place almost everywhere quite fast so I e thought that ARMA surely support it considering the game is totally new but i should be wrong.

Yeah, I know the graphic card is a little expensive but is from lifetime I'm an Nvidia user and is difficult for me to trust&try ATI even a lot of persons speak well about it. smile_o.gif ...Anyway I will take a look at it!

Thak you again for your words

No problem smile_o.gif

http://www.guru3d.com/

I used that website to find the card i wanted (i eventually decided to go with the X1950 PRO 512mb) Its quite a useful website, take a look for a decent card, use something like Froogle or some other shopping search website to find a decent price (unless you want to order it all from one place, which is more efficient but searching around can save you a few nice pennies hehe)

EDIT: And yes, its better to buy a Dual core anyway, although ArmA isnt CONFIGURED to run dual core itself the dual core can help run your background services on another core, and sharing the load, speeding it up smile_o.gif Also its good to use with other programs biggrin_o.gif

Discussions like this seems to covered in numerous thread, for example:

PC Discussion Thread and Horrible Performance....

But, just for the record, I would say that the computer is a good choice for a budget gamingcomp.

Keep in mind that with good ram, that E6300 can be clocked around 40% with stock cooling!

A note on your power supply;

It seems that this is one part of the computer everybody seems to forget.

It is very important to investigate your power supply requirements.

All the the components will put a demand on your power supply and cause wierd things to happen should it not be sufficent.

Therefore, I suggest you go bigger than 500 Watts.

All the hardware that you are thinking about using will have a demand somewhere in it's documentation, this will be in watts (look for max watts if available) total it all up and there is your minimum number. Go to at least the next largest available power supply.

PS: add up the demand of the USB devices that do not have a seperate power supply, they take power from the computer.

The card your looking at I think is asking for 350 watts minimum!

A little of topic but I would not doubt that many people complaining about Graphic isssues and such might be under powered as it will affect the operation of the components

My 2 cents

Use the threads wex-q mentions. No need for a new topic.
