WallieWheely 0 Posted December 28, 2006 My setup: P4 2,8 @ 2,97 2x 256 1x 512 ram Club3D Radeon 9800Pro 256bit 128mb Does anybody know what the problem is? Mostly i get this when im gettin near to a HMMV
Frans 0 Posted December 28, 2006 Probably your texture settings are too high, set them to Low or Very low. Same problem has been mentioned in various threads here.
WallieWheely 0 Posted December 28, 2006 I have everything on very low or off still doesnt work.. Ive updated my drivers going to try if that fixed it..
DaRat 0 Posted December 28, 2006 Isn't that what happens when your GPU overheats?
WallieWheely 0 Posted December 28, 2006 yes that can be true, tried it with the newest drivers but doesnt work. If i touch the cooler of my GPU it feels hot yes. Much hotter then my CPU cooler... But why doenst it get overheated with other games then ? Like NFS Carbon and Gothic III They ask alot of my GPU too..
Frans 0 Posted December 28, 2006 Most games ask alot from certain parts of your gpu. ArmA asks alot from every part of your gpu  I've got a 9800pro as well. Try setting it to Performance in the ATI Catalyst settings (it's there somwhere). In ArmA, set resolution to 1024x768, terrain detail on very low, object detail to low, texture to very low, the rest on low or off. Blood can go on high. If it works then, you can try raising some settings a bit. edit: And indeed it does look a lot like overheating. 9800s do tend to get very hot. You're not overclocking it are you? You could try cleaning the cooling fan, perhaps it's clogged up with dust.
WallieWheely 0 Posted December 28, 2006 Everything on ati catalyst is allready on performance and i have everything on very low still doenst work... Â /edit ill go try and cleaning it now if that doesnt work ill go to the computer shop here on the island texel and get a new cooler for my 9800pro... Frans 0 Posted December 28, 2006 When you go to the shop you might as well buy a 7600GT. About 180 euro. Best AGP card for the bucks. (Geen idee of ze die op Texel hebben overigens.)
LT.INSTG8R 0 Posted December 28, 2006 I have seen alot of these kinds of errors on RV350(9600) and R350(9800s) with newer games. I suspect is has something to do with the cores handling of shaders. I can only offer a few pieces of advise being a former owner of both cards(and an X800XT before I put in "the 2 Ruby's") First the easy one(well kinda) Uninstall your Catalysts, download Drivercleaner run it after rebooting(also I would the Cab Cleaner as well, you can find it under Tools, this only needs to be done once)then run any other Reg cleaners you have, then reboot. Also D/L the latest DX9C Dec. Update Install that. Then you can reinstall the Catalysts. After that is all rebooted and up again. Check under the SMARTGART Tab and make sure that everything is on in there. Don't forget to Defrag then, Test. (Also Note: These steps apply to everyone when uninstalling drivers and I would also recommend everyone get the DX9 update as well) Hopefully this fixed it. If not well heat is an issue with 9800's they had very inferior cooling solutions for the power and heat they generate. Those do look alot like heat related artifacts. Is this instantaneous? or does the game dwindle to this? If so it is most definitely a heat issue (I installed a huge TT Giant II on mine) Consider a better cooling solution like the Zalman VF Series Your last alternative is a slightly tricker one but is a worthy solution to card thats starting to show its age. Flashing the BIOS to a 9800XT(the R360 core had different shader optimizations which may help). Most later model 9800Pros 128Mb and 256Mb used R360 cores so chances are you have one and there is an easy enough way to check without pulling the card apart to read the core itself) If your not comfortable with it thats fine I can easily point you to guides and MANY threads of my own on tips and tricks to doing this the easiest way. If you decide to get better cooling for it then the BIOS flash is a no brainer anyway. Hope some of this helps
theedge_jinx 1 Posted December 28, 2006 I don't think that overheating is the issue here. In that case, the textures on the weapon model would also be distorted. I actually had the exact same type of card as you, a Club3d 9800Pro 128mb. I've actually had this problem too, looked exactly like this, but I can't remember which game it was. I believe it was in some driving game. Anyhoo, my best bet is a total reinstall of the catalyst drivers, with driver cleaner inbetween and then reinstalling the latest dx9. If that doesnt work the just try tinkering with all kinds of graphic settings.
WallieWheely 0 Posted December 28, 2006 uinstallled the drivers , runned driver cleaner , reinstalled the drivers and directx... still doesnt work  /edit
Stormingsoul 0 Posted December 28, 2006 It's a ATI driver problem with the game http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=55868
WallieWheely 0 Posted December 28, 2006 ahh ok then i guess all i can do is wait for a fix.. thx anyway everybody that replied on my topic

Yes do that! =p i got the xfx xxx edition(best one in that series) and run everything on highto very high(including shadows)@1024x768. May not be the best but its damn sure close. Frans 0 Posted January 2, 2007 I haven't got a clue what you mean, but glad to hear it works now.
max power 21 Posted January 2, 2007 You think some guys in their basement can write better drivers than ATI amd AMD combined? Don't try the omega drivers. They will mess up your ATI card, especially if you like to play opengl games. Moreover, if my experience from a couple of years ago is still true today, they cannot be removed and you need to reinstall your OS to get rid of them completely. Stick with the catalyst drivers. The AMD guys have really cracked the whip on the ATI firmware coders. They are probably staying at work almost 8 hours a day again! My x850s are 18 months old and they're finally being fully supported by the software! If the engineers putting all those annoying transistors in the hardware wasn't reason enough to make them work, the AMD managers roaming around with a stack of pink slips seems to be! VarusXX 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Looks like a 2 person conversation I also have sometimes the same problems. It's equal if I play ArmA or the demo. Sometimes it starts normal and I can play some minutes but sometimes it starts like this: (here its from the demo) Sometimes it beginns somewhere during playing. No idea, what's to do. My card is a Gainward 7800GS+ with 512MB and I have 2GB RAM. Should be ok for ArmA, or not?
Bunks 0 Posted January 2, 2007 Varus, I too have this from time to time. Sometimes its fine and out of nowhere its all fuzzy on startup. I have an Ati X850xt so its not a nvidia thing nor a 7800 problem.
VarusXX 0 Posted January 3, 2007 Thanx. But what can I do? I switch from low to high and back and whatever comes in my mind. Sometimes with result but mostly not. All what I wanna do is playing, but on this I'm unable to read the text..... For now I go back to Battlefield 2142 and destroy some titan

This just might be related to graphics card's MipMap settings... be sure that mipmap detail level is set to high quality control panel >> appearance and themes >> display >> settings >> advanced >> 3D >> custom >> MipMap detail level
