King Poulet 1 Posted January 31, 2002 Ok, I just changed my computer (P3 500 with SB Live!) to an Athlon XP1800 with Audigy card and I still have the loud footstep problem if the audio HW acceleration is enabled. Is it a problem for all user with SB card or it need specific settings?

Intruder 0 Posted January 31, 2002 Yeah, I got SBLive, and I can hear gunfire from a fair distance away. Makes me jump sometimes
suma 8 Posted January 31, 2002 This bug should be fixed by latest Audigy drivers available at www.soundblaster.com. If new drivers did not fix it, disable EAX. If that does not help, disable HW acceleration as well (both can be disabled from ingame sound options). See also I can hears footsteps from large distance topic in Troubleshooting FAQ forum. Gaswell 1 Posted February 1, 2002 Any Audigy owners with Win98SE know if the latest drivers solve the EAX problem? Any difference between Audigy models that I should know of, but Creative won't tell me? I'm very interested in getting the best possible sound in OFP, but I already have a sound card with poor EAX (SB Live! Value) and don't really need another. troop 0 Posted February 1, 2002 May I highly recommend to read a bit about the Audigy (models) before you shell out the money? --- http://de.europe.creative.com/support/forums/forum.asp?foru=51 --- On a short note: I Â got it up and running now without ACPI on KR7A-RAID;..but, it took me 4 weeks(!) to get there. (XP;.. 98se is _slightly_ less complicated to set up) The driver installation is _not_ easy or, more common for many users, you run into horrible (I mean it) problems later. ('Squeals of death', BSOD, crackling...the list continues) At least do yourself an favour, and _wait_ for their next drivers release (whenever that might be..) and the _user comments_ on those. The tech support of them is NOT able to help you with the various problems, beware! I will say this: Since the days, when I owned my first SB 8-bit, and almost every Creative SB model thereafter, I did not Xperience such an b*tch of installation. Never. And I'm not alone, just read that forum or the NG's for the Audigy. If you want, look up my username, and how I finally managed to get it up running under XP. (W2K: Same problems) I tried all MS OS's I also have to comment on the Quality of the Audigy (hardware; NOT drivers or included software) to be fair. It's phantastic, IF it runs. Way better than my former SBLive! It's your money and nerves; you decide. --- PS: Oh, btw. Just to add to the original topic (pardon me) the footstep bug is still present with the latest Audigy drivers, when EAX and HW Accel is on. Without, it sounds shit anyway. This is after 2 fresh installations of XP and thereafter OFP. 1.0(EU) -> 1.20 -> 1.30 -> 1.42 (DX8.1) Meanwhile, I've installed OFP at least 8 times (formerly 98se and SBLive! present) and ..ja, it's still there. But I aint complaining;..at least OFP does not CTD or lock-up which would be much more severe;..especially with Satchel's soundpack coming up... .)
Gaswell 1 Posted February 1, 2002 I guess I'll be giving the Audigy a miss, then. I'm no die-hard audiophile; I just wanted EAX in OFP. But apparently that ain't gonna happen with Creative's products. Someone once mentioned that the Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II worked like a charm in OFP; maybe I'll check it out. WKK Gimbal 0 Posted February 1, 2002 I see the benefit of this sound issue: Noone can hide from you, within a 500 meters range you know what direction they come from, whether they lie down or sneak, heheh. It's like having radar in MP :-)

cpl_BOB 0 Posted May 23, 2002 guyz,, have you ever considered, that the sound programming in OFP is just plain CRAP....
advocatexxx 0 Posted May 23, 2002 It is really buggy.. if you turn your volume up really high, you can hear the footsteps from guys even 4 kilometers away ! I mean, why do those sounds play in the first place ? I understand distant explosions would be heard over such distance, but footstep sounds shouldn't even play if the enemy soldiers are over 100 meters away. Turning off hardware acceleration means your system will have to deal with all the stuff, and it won't be able to play as many sounds at the same time without sacrificing game performance. I like it how trebles go down and bases get louder to simulate distant sounds, but like I said, I hear fountain sound from a village that is so far away that I wouldn't hear a grenade go off had it exploded there. napalm02 0 Posted May 23, 2002 My problem is not with EAX when it is OFF I have 2 HP ok and when it is ON I have 4HP ok but EAX ON or OFF the hardware acceleration is THE PROBLEM !!! When it is ON the bug foot step...and When it is OFF all is right But i don't hear the other sound in range explosion oir impact of bullet !!! It's a bug with the GAME not with the drivers or sound card !!! Because all game are OK with hardware acceleration !!!
