Montaya 0 Posted December 23, 2006 I can live without a little circular radar display at the top left or right of my screen but it would be so much more nice and better for all of us, noobs or not. Its a pain to pop the binoculors out all the time to identify others, and looking at the map in esc or by pushing the M key to check the situation. I noticed that a lot of kills in game are friendly fire and unintentional. Its also very confusing whose who when your in a town and you got people parachuting down all over you. I especially hate getting fragged by my own teammates because they are too lazy, dont bother to use binoculars or check the map or plainly just suck. I know you can push esc to see the map. but it doesn't even show friendlies on there sometimes based on the server and if so, they are huge blue boxes moving around. All i'm asking is to make our lives much easier and entertaining and do some sort of little permanent/somewhat transparent HUD radar that can show little dots or something identifying allied units and maybe something to indicate whether they are firing or not to see if they have encountered an enemy. This also i think will increase the popularity and attract more players to the game, especially when its released in the US. Main problem why OFP wasn't so popular with the masses of the gaming community was because people just don't have the patients for warfare simulators and adding HUD radar will greatly ease everyones pains once and for all. Big Dawg KS 6 Posted December 23, 2006 And what's wrong with the friendly tags currently in game? Just put your crosshair over them and they'll show as friendly - IF you're not in veteran mode. Other than that you should learn how to identify the uniforms, they're quite different and very easy to distinguish. Radar is just a bad idea - the HUD is fine as it is and I seriously doubt BIS is going to change it (unless they want to piss a lot of people off that is). Besides, friendly fire is part of the experience.
Millenium7 0 Posted December 23, 2006 there is a MASSIVE difference between uniforms (and theres the player ID if the server has it on) even for a noob its pretty hard to not tell the difference. Adding a radar is a bad idea, I don't care if the 'others' don't play this game. the current fans will and the player base is much better than the 10 year olds screaming at everyone over mic you get in most other FPS games. Occasional friendly fire is a GOOD thing, just like not having a weapon that shoots 100 player seeking rockets in 1 second is a good thing.
Montaya 0 Posted December 23, 2006 Player tags only show at short distances though and on night maps its like freaking impossible to tell whose who.
Big Dawg KS 6 Posted December 23, 2006 Then use radio comunications, make sure you know where your teamates are and where they're going to be. You just have to use proper tactics. Sorry but the majority of people here would probably prefer no HUD at all, so there's practically zero chance of a radar. But I assure you there are other, more realistic ways to prevent this, you just have to figure them out.
Clavicula_nox4817 0 Posted December 23, 2006 Player tags only show at short distances though and on night maps its like freaking impossible to tell whose who. That's when you practice visual aquisition. The helmets between East and West are different. The weapons are different. The gear is different. If it's so impossible to tell the difference at night, how then do people do it both in real life and the game?
Montaya 0 Posted December 23, 2006 yeah i guess so, i myself don't have a problem much with distinguishing friend from foe but its getting fragged by my teammates all the time is the problem.
4 IN 1 0 Posted December 23, 2006 well thats how different this game is, you need to learn how to live with it
Visceral_Syn 0 Posted December 23, 2006 Hate to sound sarcastic, but let friendlies go first, they can't shoot you if you are behind them, or so they say. ...syn... situational awareness is sucha good thing...
Col. Faulkner 0 Posted December 23, 2006 I like playing at night in this game (sans those damn new-fangled "night vision goggles")! The confusion typical of such ops is decently well reproduced.
Scillion 0 Posted December 23, 2006 I can understand your problems. If you play with a squad or with a group of friends you'll learn ways to ID each other (almost all the time). On the other hand, if your just joining random servers you can expect to be blown to bits some times. I've found that a Squad (Clan, Team, Group) of regular players who practice and play together can be a much more rewarding experience. I'm not against having better IDs as long they can be turned off. Good Luck
Enigma 1 Posted December 23, 2006 Keep better situational awareness. No quick map.
observer 0 Posted December 23, 2006 Old problem, old solution: play on servers you know the players. I have to agree that it is hard to accomplish at the moment, because there are many new servers and new folk joining every day to the community, but in two months you will probably know some servers, where the other players learned something called "fire discipline" and "muzzle awareness". Even today, joining a random OFP-public-server can end up in getting shot by a unskilled little kid. Nothing new. The point is: Armed Asault is, as well as Operation Flashpint was, a combat simulation. I know, simulations are way outfashioned nowadays, but remember falcon 4.0, ever became a good jetpilot without checking the large-dimensioned manual? And wow, to get rid of the HUD would be very kewl. Just the inventar, updating when mags are empty. Hehe, in three or four weeks, not a single battlefieldX-fanboy would play ArmA nomore. Yes, I know that this can´t be the way, but funny nontheless!
