Did they forget getMarkerDir?

Recommended Posts

Nearly 400 new commands in ArmA, but no getMarkerDir ???

Did they just plain forget to implement it, or is there another new way to find out the orientation of markers?

Perhaps they forgot to include it in the list? Has anyone tried it?

Then again... is it really needed? I am sure there is a good reason to use it.. I just cant think of one right now.

Quite some time ago, I've been working on a script to put danger signs on the edge of a respawn area (a marker, defined as an ellipsis). To be able to determine where to put the markers and the direction (to make them face outward), I needed (and sorely missed) the getMarkerDir.

Didn't use ArmA buy maybe you could try:

<table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">getDir myMarker

I haven't tried it for ArmA yet, but it didn't work for OFP.

Excellent example.

I really relied that command in the VBS version of my Urban Patrol Script (a sort-of dynamic mission maker).

With this script the user can place a marker over the area of the map he wants patrolled, and the units will stay within the borders of that marker. And, of course, coverage can be a lot more exact if the marker can be rotated.

I had to take out the functionality of using rotated markers in the OFP version of the script, but I was really hoping to have that command in ArmA (since so many of the dynamic marker commands were copied from VBS to ArmA).

Well... perhaps in one of the updates...

Yeah,

and while we are at it reading the text of a marker "getMarkerText"

is missing as well. I think there are a couple of instances of one of the read/write(one of those) functions missing , in the BIKI at least. But since I haven't gotten the game yet , I can't find out whats missing tho
