Independence Lost?

Recommended Posts

I seriously can't believe no-one mentioned it yet, since it is directly related to the whole theme of Independence Lost. I wonder if it means that similar addon will never be officialy released now?

May 28, 2006

New Zealand's embassy in East Timor is under armed guard after being abandoned because of the dangers in the town.

At least 21 people have been killed in the country's capital, Dili, in the last week as rival gangs battle each other in the city's streets and attack civilians.

New Zealand ambassador Ruth Nuttall abandoned the embassy on Saturday after it was threatened by a violent mob.

But, as of Sunday six New Zealand soldiers were standing guard and the ambassador was back in residence. She says New Zealand soldiers secured the compound soon after they arrived in Dili last night.

The remaining 36 members of the New Zealand advanced party are now ready for deployment elsewhere in the city, depending on the operational needs of the Australian commanders of the international stabilisation force.

The 124 reinforcements who flew out of Christchurch on Saturday are still at the Australian army base in Townsville, Queensland. Commanders are in talks about the practicalities of their next movement.

The Red Cross and the United Nations are evacuating all non-essential staff from Dili, as the violence continues.

A spokesperson in New Zealand says Red Cross workers in Dili have described on-going violence overnight and early Sunday morning, including gun battles, explosions and the destruction of property. He says the workers are finding it hard to assist the Timorese and are keeping a low profile until the situation improves.

More than 300 foreign nationals, including New Zealanders, have been evacuated from East Timor to Darwin.

Those evacuated included 170 Australians and nationals from the UK, the United States, South America, New Zealand, Germany, The Netherlands, France, Italy and the Philippines.

Wasn't IL cancelled anyway? All (or most of at least) stuff you could see on the IL screens was included in VBS1, even the aircraft carrier.

Instead of this, wasn't IL what finally became VBS1 ?

If i remember well, the page for IL was hosted by seventh, that seems to be one of the VBS1 head guy now.

If you look up IL website, it says 'Postponed until after OFP2', suggesting that it probably hasnt been updated in ages.

Could very well be that it was meant as an expansion to OFP or it's follow up, but that at that time BIS saw more need (read: $ ) in a military simulator.

Although the "Postponed until after OFP2" would contradict that... confused_o.gif

I would've not been surprised at all if Independence Lost was planned in some form as an expansion for Armed Assault. smile_o.gif

At the time it was said "to be released after OFP2", Armed Assault wasn`t planned.

I hope that we get Independence Lost as an expansion to Armed Assault. inlove.gif

It's scary..... East timor's independence really has seemed to have decended into anarchy.

Had it been released 'back in the day', when it was hot off the drawing board, today it would have been: 'Wow, that's so cool, the storyline of a game actually came true!'.

But, from the images we're getting from the media, East Timor, really is, in a whole lot of strife for the time being.
