Limbaugh arrested in Palm Beach County

WEST PALM BEACH - (AP)

Rush Limbaugh was arrested Friday in Palm Beach County on prescription drug charges, law enforcement officials said.

Limbaugh turned himself in to authorities on a warrant issued by the state attorney's office, said spokesman Teri Barbera.

The conservative radio commentator came into the jail at about 4 p.m. with his attorney Roy Black and bonded out an hour later on a $3,000 bail, Barbera said...

Ah the fine print ... :P

Black said his client and authorities reached a settlement on a single count charge of doctor shopping filed Friday by the state attorney will be dismissed in 18 months.

Limbaugh has not been charged and maintains he is innocent. He has acknowledged he became addicted to pain medication, blaming it on severe back pain, and took a five-week leave from his radio show to enter a rehabilitation program in 2003.

Rush's housekeeper was bribed by a tabloid to tell-all prompting a nearly 3 year and inconclusive investigation by the state, primarily however by the local DA - near where Janet Reno formerly served before being prompted to responsibility over Waco, Ruby Ridge, Oklahoma City, Elian Gonzalez, civil/criminal proceedings against Bin Laden, Jamie Gorelich's wall of seperation between federal agencies and so forth.

It's also of interest that the settlement involves the payment of a rather insignificant $30k USD in legal fees to the State of Florida. If that's all they spent for three years worth of work, then it's clear that it was either a witchhunt or there wasn't anything there to investigate.

Now as to how the US legal system works, the arrest technically doesn't mean anything relating to the prosecution of justice. It's just a formality acknowledging that a magistrate has found probable cause to initiate a partial suspension of certain civil liberties to better prosecute or exonerate a non-combatant citizen. It's not even an arraignment where he could be formally charged with a crime. It's strictly just an administrative arrest on suspicion of committing a crime, and he was bailed out on condition of appearing at a hearing where the prosecuter will decline to file charges due to a probation arrangement that will be agreed to and become legally binding at that time.

Now if you want to look at miscarriages of justice, let's open your dirty laundry. What about the pics of Pete Doherty doping up unconcious groupies for all sorts of purient pleasures? Hmm? And how come he's not strung up in prison without soap-on-a-rope? Your police had no reservations about treating Snoop Dogg to a little Compton Hospitality the other day at Heathrow, yet Pete Doherty is still as free and high as a bird.

Hmm? wink_o.gif

Whose dirty laundry are you referring to?

The Docherty and Snoop Dogg incidents occured in the UK, where the Crown Prosecution Service is lethargic at best. You have to admit, when some DA goes after somebody in the States, you know about it. Here, some penpusher will eventually make a recommendation and eventually something might make it to the courts. Imagine The Office with failed lawyers, and you have the prosecuting authority of the United Kingdom.

Well, what i can find at google about him is that he's supposedly a heavily christian person, yet he had a divorce, is fat (no offense to fat people it's just that glutny is considered a sin, a big one at that) and now i also know he's a drugaddict. I could go on a huge rant about how big of a hypocrit he seems but, since i'm christian myself i am not supposed to judge anyone.

The guy also seems prone to addiction which some christians consider the sign of the devil, heh.

That was wicked, and I mean in a good way. Showing someone who has no previous knowledge of this pompous douchecannon and letting them have at it, researching them on google.

And this is the overall impression you get, from a relatively objective source.

This guy was also a huge advocate of throwing drug addicts into general population prison, just for being drug addicts. Personally I find a lot of these types of people to be ridiculously hypocritical and self righteous. It's disgusting.

It'd serve him a good lesson if he received some of the compassion from his legal system as he proscribes it for "fellow" drug addicts.

I think this well and truly fits the bill of "too OT for OT". If you must discuss this, please do so in the USA Politics Thread.
