chris330 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Dear All, Just thought I'd show you these. This ship was salvaged off the bottom of the Atlantic several years ago where it had lain since WWII. It's about to moved from our area because the Government have granted a local developer the permission to build apartments out of the War Museum, even though the Council were against it. As far as I know it is the only U-Boat ever to be salvaged and it contained an enigma machine (on display at the museum before it closed).
JdB 151 Posted April 20, 2006 I have a feeling that we are forgetting that that particular war ever happened, and that we are well on our way to making the same mistakes all over again (as with anything in the evolution concerning humans, animals evolve, humans just return to the same idiotic ideas they had not so long ago)

United Kingdom is showing some shockingly stark parallels to pre-Second World War Germany and looks set only to get worse. I fear it will be the ethnic minorities who will be made the scapegoats too, when in fact it is the fault of those who have badly managed the country allowing people to get away with too much for too long, not the fault of those of a different skin colour. Anyway, let's keep this on-topic
Ex-RoNiN 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Hey chris, long time no see Does the museum have a link, or do you have an address/name? Cheers!
-Ash- 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Isn't that U534 at Birkenhead? They even have HMS Plymouth there (when Argentina surrendered South Georgia to the UK during the Falklands War) Only up the road from me
theavonlady 2 Posted April 20, 2006 Looks like the U534 to me! U534 @ uboat.net. Seems like the site linked to from there is down.

They even have HMS Plymouth there (when Argentina surrendered South Georgia to the UK during the Falklands War) Only up the road from me  Greetings Ronin and others Yep that's the one mate. Been around HMS Plymouth and HMS Onyx (horribly cramped inside). Was Plymouth the one that got set on fire where that famous guy who got badly burned was on? Onyx was used to deploy the specials during the Falklands. Apparently they ran aground in the middle of the night one time and thought they had hit a mine. No way would I fancy that seeing how cramped it is under there. And as for having to service/refit it.....forget it Plymouth's gun loading chamber beneath the main gun is not particularly pleasant either (only one exit and cramped). chris330 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Just a quick note, I have other pictures too. The main interesting one shows the original deck gun with it's protective plate for the operator. Need to brighten it up a bit though before posting on here. Just for those who don't know this is right next to the main road. Forgot it was there for ages and was driving past it one night and got the shock of my bloody life when it jumped out of the gloom. The front end points right out into the road and is the absolute essence of eeriness and foreboding when going past it in the middle of the night (which I'm sure isn't difficult to imagine)
-Ash- 0 Posted April 20, 2006 Yeah I went there last year as I'm from the Liverpool side.. I actually wanted to get some reference pics of Onyx, some nice closeups of an Oerlikon onboard Plymouth and also some angles of the Westland Wasp that she carries... Its a superb place and it's a bloody shame about the funding etc.. The little Falklands war musem onboard Plymouth is rather nice as well.. The ship on fire you're thinking about was Sir Galahad an LSL that was hit by 2 Argentine Skyhawks.. It was later sunk as a memorial.
fallchild 0 Posted April 20, 2006 It's a disgrace that they're going to get rid of the museum, it's just a few minutes down the road from me. Totally agree about how cramped Onyx is, there's no way I'd ever consider being a submariner
sputnik monroe 102 Posted April 20, 2006 That's a shame. In my opinion closing any museum is a crime.

red oct 2 Posted July 20, 2006 You should definitly get some pickiters together and see if you can stop this. maybe even start a collection fund to attempt to buy the boat back. That's how one of our WWII subs SS-224 the Cod was saved from being scrapped.
j w 0 Posted July 20, 2006 2 months old topic. The guy who woke it wasn't even ontopic. Though, it is a 4 month limits, but then again, the new post should bring something to the topic. I've PMed him that he should stick to PMs in these matters. Regards JW

Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted July 21, 2006 We have a wwii u-boat here in Aalborg... Let me see if I can dig up some pics...
Espectro (DayZ) 0 Posted July 21, 2006 Nope, I was wrong. It was a danish submarine from 1963. But I guess the equitment on board wasn't much more advanced than that of a german u-boat from wwii.
