Why are there no Soviet HMGs?

I just thought of this while playing a Red Hammer mission.

I noticed that the Soviets are using Browning M2 Heavy Machine Guns instead of their own DShK or NSV type weapons. Maybe BIS should include this on their next patch.

Seems kind of unrealistic when you you see Soviets using American weapons instead of their own.

Good point. Where's the russian 12.7 AAMG? Would be great, During my service in the army I had the pleasure of trying it out smile.gif

I think that the reason BIS haven't included as much stuff for russians in ofp is that it was apparently not originally intended for mp.

But the SP missions still contain Russian MG's firing at your sorry a**. Could it be they were lazy? Or did they just feel that it was not worth worrying about?

And, correct me if I'm wrong, are LAW's and RPG's actually the same IG, where's as IRL they would have different characteristics?

And CarlGustav=AT4?

and AA=Strela?

(I mean the graphic appearances are different obviously, but the flight models, rounds, explosions etc. are the same)

Is this a wrong assumption?

You're right, the LAW and rpg are the same (except skin).

IRL rpg should have different ammo types + better armor penetration with basic ammo not to mention the LAW is a disposable weapon.

Same goes to russian HMG, they should have their own weapon (12.7 AAHMG) not M2 east tounge.gif

But anyway OF is a dominant masterpiece compared to any other war sim.

The LAW's, RPG's, Carl Gustav's and AT-4's are all similar to their counterparts on the other side. The LAW and RPG even have the same model for the rocket.

Russia KIcked American back ,and thrown rocks at the americans.

it wouldbe sweet in OFP to able to pick up rocks and thrown at each other.

It's the same with rifles. All AK's and M16 are only different in firemodes and looks. Everything else is the same. Actually, this seems like something one would do for a game intended mainly for multiplayer. Or it could be lazyness. Or it could be to avoid Americans complaining that the Russian weapons where superior. biggrin.gif

Why do you thinck russian have only 2 chopers in game? couse there be bitching if russian had ka50 or mi28.

Well, IMO worse games have better wepons features than OFP. Look at the R6 series. There is a vast number of different weapons. All with different sounds and characteristics. I felt that the weapons for the R6 series were nicely done.

Contrast this to OFP. On a campaign or single mission you cannot even choose your weapons, well sometimes. In real life you get issued stuff and you have no choice. But this is a game, and for entertainment sake they should let you choose. The same old layout of 1 assault rifle (M-16 or AK-74) 4 mags, and 6 grenades gets dull after a few missions. In real life a soldier can have 5 loaded mags + a bandolier of 150 rounds of 5.56 NATO ammo.

Another problem is the over powered G-36. It uses the same round as the M-16 but it can drop people with one shot, no matter where you hit them. A little un-realistic if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong, I still feel OFP is a cut above the rest, but for $59.99 (Can) they could have put a few more weapons in it. Especially widely used ones.

I wouldn't complain if there were more Soviet choppers, thats the way it really is.

And when you've done that you'll find that it's still not enough, and then you'll want more and more and more.

I think the official weapons are plenty, actually.

I think a higher variety of weapons makes things more interesting. Look at S.W.A.T 3 for example. I LOVED the game but It seemed to be a bit dull because there was only 4 main weapons that you could use in SP mode. I found myself using the M4 99% of the time. Sure you could make your own missions and use other weapons, but it was not as convienient.
