freelancer3018 0 Posted February 21, 2006 I recently bought OFP GOTY and installed it. I was not able to play so I reformated my computer (I had planned on reformating anyways). When I installed OFP on my clean computer I was able to play the game. I played it for about a wekk then I left it alone. When I went back to play it It would no longer play. It kept giving me an error so I reinstalled and didn't upgrade and it would go to the Codemasters screen and not go any further. I then updated all drivers and direct x and samething. So I went to a friends house hooked it up and it worked and we were able to play via Lan. Take it back to my house and poof no longer works. If anyopne has any ideas please tell me because I am just out of ideas.

Are we supposed to guess what errormessage you got or something? Tell us the message + your systemspecs please. Are you sure you installed the GOTY patch and not the regular one? freelancer3018 0 Posted February 21, 2006 My bad bout the error message. It didnt say anything but "it encountered a problem and must shutdown." It didnt give me any specifics on the problem. I am positive I used the correct update but the wierd thing is that the error only occurs after i update. After a fresh install all it does is go to code master and then to desktop. Sorry about the lack of info. I have a: AMD Athalon 2800+ 2.08 GHz 768 RAM Radeon 9800 Realtec AC'97 Soundcard
456820 0 Posted February 21, 2006 by any chance are you using DXDLL any other addons/mods. DXDLL does cause ofp the CTD at the codemasters screen with gfx cards which dont support it. what GOTY edition is it i recently bought a new version cause my old version got scratched and i couldnt instal it cause i tried re installing it to get rid of some error. Anyway i bought some copy from PC Gamer of amazon and i wish i didnt it took over 5 installs to get it to work the CD Key supplied with it is incorrect so i used the one from my old GOTY which worked great. I also got errors like you discribe.
Placebo 29 Posted February 21, 2006 I am positive I used the correct update but the wierd thing is that the error only occurs after i update. What version of Flashpoint do you have? What update did you use?
freelancer3018 0 Posted February 21, 2006 I was using the update 1.96 for the GOTY. That would give me the error message. So I reinstalled and didn't upgrade (stayed with 1.85) and that gave me the CTD from the codemasters screen.
Placebo 29 Posted February 21, 2006 Try installing this patch...... ftp://www.flashpoint1985.com/flashpoint/patches/OFPGOTYPatch_196.zip That should be the correct GOTY patch to bring the game to 1.
freelancer3018 0 Posted February 21, 2006 the problem isnt that I am using the wrong update. its that everytime I install that update it brings up an error as stated above. When I leave it at 1.85 I get the codemaster screen when it CTD. And to answer the question above when I update the DXDLL is coming up as part of the problem. JdB 151 Posted February 21, 2006 Quote[/b] ]Realtec AC'97 Soundcard May not be the source of this problem, but using that particular piece of hardware is cause for an OFP-related problem sooner or later.
freelancer3018 0 Posted February 21, 2006 Why would it cause a problem. If it is thats understandable but the problem I have with it is that I was able to play it at a friends house with my computer but at my house it doesnt work. Its wierd. This is the error signature when I update my game to 1.96 AppName: flashpointresistance.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.96 ModName: dinput8.dll ModVer: 5.3.2600.2180 Offset: 00016324
XCess 0 Posted February 24, 2006 When I first installed Res, while using the Realtec AC'97 I had a black screen from startup that didn't fix itself until I reinstalled. When I finally fixed this all sounds would contantly loop. This was fixed with the patch. But it does show that the AC'97 soundcard and OFP:R definately are NOT the best of friends. XCess 0 Posted February 25, 2006 My problems with the ac'97 seem to have dissapeared when i installed the 1.96 patch.

Have you tried downloading and re-installing the latest directX? DirectX End-User Runtimes (December 2005) Full Download Try disabling your soundcard completely, it's onboard right? So disabling will be done in bios, if the game still crashes then in theory it rules out the soundcard. Do you have a joystick attached? Try removing any peripherals you may have attached, anything USB etc. leave only Keyboard & mouse attached and see if it helps.
