Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted February 17, 2006 Well maybe you know or maybe you don't but there is a certain HL2 mod that looks pretty good in terms of being one of the best mods that's going to be released for it. I've posted this because Insurgency have just posted a new Website and with it have released some new screenshots (NO RENDERS!! along with a mod tour packed with information. I think i'll let them do the talking though. Quote[/b] ]Insurgency (INS) is a total conversion modification for Half-Life 2. The program Steam is required along with a copy of Half-Life 2 in order to play INS. Back in 2002, Andrew "Argyll" Spearin, the founder and director of Insurgency, took his basic training for the Canadian Army. Being an avid gamer, this inspired Spearin to begin thinking about why war first-person-shooter games seemed to get things all wrong. He was determined to set things right. Four years later, Insurgency has evolved into what it is today. Insurgency's primary goal is to create an immersive online combat experience for the player. Set during the current war in Iraq, INS places an emphasis on teamwork and realistic elements to create intense firefights in detailed urban environments. Strong tactics, teamwork, and leadership are essential for victory to be accomplished in the challenge of modern infantry combat. Here are some of the main aims the dev team are trying to accomplish. Quote[/b] ]The primary goal for the INS team is to provide an equilibrium between fluid firefights and realistic gameplay, featuring both intense combat and strong teamplay. This will provide a framework from which we can expand upon in order to refine the mod closer to perfection. We will support our community and provide and promote the foundation for how we envision Insurgency to be. We are mod developers and gamers. We know what it is like to anticipate a project, play it, and then improve upon it. That is what has made the Half-Life series so great, and we hope to leave a lasting legacy with INS. It also incorperates different gameplay types aswell. Quote[/b] ]Insurgency involves the objective of securing key areas of a level. This could be anything from a room, to a street corner, to an entire building. Capturing these objectives is tough, but made easier with the use of teamwork to assault and flank the enemy. There are four multiple configurations of objectives, creating unique gameplay experiences:Battle: Objectives must be captured in a sequential order. You can only capture the next objective in the sequence. This creates a vicious frontline and if it buckles, could spell disaster as the enemy gains an upper hand. Push: One team is attacking the objectives in sequential order while the other team must hold them off. Defenders have the tactical advantage, however they don't have as many reinforcements, so need to really value their life in order to successfully hold the line. Firefight: Multiple objectives can be captured in any order by any team. Communication and strategy is essential in order to gain victory. Strike: One objective is being defended by a team while the other team must secure it. Take cover, you'll need it as the tracers fly. Secondary objectives: Bullets are what keep you alive. Weapons caches scattered through out the level allow you to top up on weapons and ammunition and continue the fight. These caches are essential, especially for guerrilla forces, so must be kept watch so that they don't get destroyed. Reinforcements: After being killed in action, you will enter the reinforcement pool. The length of time before the reinforcements are sent in varies depending on game mode and the level. Also, there is a limited amount of reinforcement waves that your team receives; this also is depending on the level settings. Dynamics: All of a level's settings can be changed through its Insurgency Map Configuration (IMC) file. The IMC file determines different gameplay settings. There can be multiple game type profiles for a single map, using different objectives. Also, reinforcement waves and time limits can also be changed based on the different profiles. Levels can be perfectly balanced or imbalanced, it is at the server's discretion. Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted February 17, 2006 Hmm sounds like a cross between CS and DoD. Have you checked the mod tour? It's nothing like CS and you can take that from me.
orange juice 0 Posted February 17, 2006 This sounds very promising indeed. Is there any info on the mod´s damage system? More like CS or more like OFP?
Messiah 2 Posted February 17, 2006 been following this for a long time as well - mainly due to the intended inclusion of british para's
Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted February 17, 2006 This sounds very promising indeed. Is there any info on the mod´s damage system? More like CS or more like OFP? Erm i can't really say alot without breaking the NDA but it's not like dod's current damage system, it has one and it's very impressive, well OFP has a more hitpoint based damage model so you can hit a guy in the toe and he'll die eventually. If you talking how many shot's it takes to down a player then then it very much like OFP.

Komissar 0 Posted February 17, 2006 The Mod Tour is good if you want a quick overview. Hopefully this won't be taken over too much by the CS Kiddies. That'd be a bit of a shame x.x Always private servers and the like.

shadow 6 Posted February 17, 2006 Looks interesting, but where are the marine snipers? Any plans for Barret .50 and any MP5 or UMP? An MK23 with LAM-400 or LAM-450 would be very sweet too.

The Marine snipers don't operate within a squad structure but they do have a designated marksman that use the M14 DMR. Also Why mp5's? and ump's? the Marines don't use them so neither will this mod. As for the lams the marines are not issued with them so you won't get em Weapons for the Marines are as follow. Quote[/b] ]M16A4 M203 M249 SAW M240 GPMG M4 RIS Carbine M9 Beretta M1014 Shotgun M14 DMR Ka-Bar Combat Knife M67 Frag M18 Smoke C4 PE Binoculars
hellfish6 7 Posted February 17, 2006 I'm beta testing as well - the mod is very impressive. I'd liken it more to Red Orchestra and OFP than I would to CSS or DODS. Shadow - Marine snipers are battalion level assets, you won't see them in squad or platoon-sized engagements, but more often they'd be off doing their own thing. Of course they can be attached to squads, but it's pretty rare and pretty temporary when they do.

Supah 0 Posted February 17, 2006 Yes and yes. GOOD! Finally a free mod for HL2 that doesn't cost money and looks like its worthwile playing. I really liked all the mods available for HL, not that I played a lot of them but the idea was great. All the mods going payware with HL2 was getting me nervous a bit

All 3rd party mods should be free, otherwise they're breaking copyright laws. Unless of course you mean DODS and CSS, which use the same engine. Anyways, this mod looks very impressive, and I'll keep my eye on it to see where it goes. Can't wait for a release!
Monkey Lib Front 10 Posted February 18, 2006 if you reg at the site there is pictures of the new Marine in both woodland and desert marpat along with woodland interceptor body armour.

If CS:S Hadnt been bundled with my copy of HL2 I pbb wouldn't have gotten it. Going payware is a good way to kill your mods popularity as it strongly reduces the number of users. Same reason I never played DoD.
