State of multiplayer?

Recommended Posts

It has been a good while since I last played OPFlashpoint, and I have the sudden urge to play again.

Before I go spend my time digging up my CDs, I have a few quick questions.

Do a lot of people still play? If I decide to go on now, will I actually find a reasonable amount of servers.

Also, what game type is played the most? I used to love co-op, how common is that now-days?

Lastly, does anyone play Resistance?! When I first got it years back, no one was ever on (which was a shame, because I liked the pistols, blood effects, and other new stuff).

Thanks in advance, and I can't wait to start playing again!

It's opposite now, nobody plays basic stock OFP anymore since virtually everybody also has Resistance either as expansion or embedded into Game-of-the-Year version. Lots of people play this game and there are plenty of mods around. Many good coop servers like CiA or Kyllikki use FDF Mod for example.

When it comes to multiplayer, OFP has outlasted all other games I've ever played. There are several thousands different coop maps around, links in my sig lead to site which hosts hundreds of FDF related coop/sp/dm maps.

co-op is played alot yes. if ya wanna know whats what thend dl this. ofpwatch

it will give ya a good place to find co op servers as well as the ingame browser, unfortunately the word gayspy comes up with that and it may remind you of the old days of two tier gaming ,when you wanted that stupid advert to go away so you could just join the server before the started the game and went(talking about gayspy.con here not ingame lol).

Well, I played a bit and was dissapointed with what I found. I tried to use Gamespy (which I used years back) and found almost no one on (more on OFP than Resistance). No one wanted to play co-op, and it seemed like no one likes to work in teams. Even in the server waiting room, no one hardly says anything.

Frustrated with this, I used the ingame server browser. There were a lot of games, but all the co-op ones had passwords. When I try to start one, no one joins sad_o.gif

Maybe I am missing something, could someone please tell me how to find and enjoy a successful co-op game, I miss it so much sad_o.gif

You are missing the right people to play with. Most servers have password set due to players who can't behave or act as a part of team.

I recommend you to try those before mentioned CiA co-ops tonight. Surely fun and teamplay oriented. Read more detailed instructions from their thread. Of course there are other alternatives available too. Some of them (like CiA) have fixed time of week when they play, but most games are set-up spontaneously in chat rooms.

The [LOL] clan has a free for all COOP server. There always seems to be someone playing.

Maybe the missions aren't perfectly realistic but playing most of them with around 10 players was always fun for me.

They only ask you to download the missions and addons from their page before you join the server. The addons also prevent that troublemakers join the games.

The best option (and I'm sure everyone that has joined a good one will agree) is to join a good co-op clan. Games are regular, and the players can be relied on. wink_o.gif

As my good friend [CAS] Daniel just said, Co-op units are plentiful. From American netherland or BRITISH.

Im happy to recommend as certain elite;

UKIF

17th 10th 3rd

[23rd] Ground Division

RAAB Para

XDF

ADF

IF

[5th]

To name a small few. I do not want to post links incase people would rather I didn’t. But just look under the Squads and Fanpages on this forum at all the divisions around.

I do know however that I can post our link of [23rd] Ground Division the unit I serve in. www.23rd-div.com.

If you want any of those links of units there are a few on our sight, and if you contact one of our personnel if the [23rd] isn’t a good enough place for you to get a game, we can find you a place that is!

SO DIG UP THOSE CD'S AND GET PLAYING!!!!

We are in the same time zone, you are welcome to play some coops with us.  I find it make a big difference with regard to one’s online experience as to who you play the game with.

We have been using the FDF mod version 1.3 for the last month or so, so you may want to download that.  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights are our usual nights to play using FDF.  If you do not want to download that we can try out a couple coops that do not require addons.  Let me know if you are interested and we can coordinate our playing times.

Aye you'll find the main game type that thrives today is the coop, MP wise. It's the best aspect of OFP.

Strangely enough, you'll find us Brits are mad for militaristic co-op squads, with 7 or 8 mainstream groups around. While it is pointless to argue who is best, the group i am in (VCB) beats the previous groups i have been in by a mile, and have been at it since late 2002.

As you said Krillin, it makes a huge difference who you play the game with. Joining a public coop server where everyone goes off and rambos is no fun at all, while joining a formal squad might be too serious for your tastes. However, i find playing with regular people and doing things based upon how they'd be done in the real world really adds to the game experience.

As a coop fan, you are really really spoilt for choice nowerdays  wink_o.gif
