metallicAL 0 Posted December 26, 2005 I wondering if theres gonna be widescreen support. At the moment in OFP you can change the aspect ratio in the user file but the iron/scope sights remain squashed/stretched. P.S Anyone know a way around my problem? (P.M me about that, as to not go off topic)
Sarge6754 0 Posted December 27, 2005 I am also running a widescreen monitor (24" CRT @ 1920x1080 in 16:9). I would greatly appreciate it if BIS made Arma fully widescreen compatible like Hl2. And I don't mean by workarounds in config files, there should be a menu option to change the aspect ratio and resolution. Can't wait for Arma...
walker 0 Posted December 27, 2005 Hi all Look up FOV on Avon's Page. OFP already has unlimited Field Of View. It has had it since the beginning. It is not limited to a particular wide screen setting as I believe HL 2 is. I was at a conference where the OFP engine was tested with a wide angle Quantum Three D projector, using a standard NVidia graphic card; this is way beyond the "fully widescreen" you describe. The system works no problem. In fact the OFP engine is capable of full dome projection if your graphic card can display it. Quantum Three D Produce graphic cards that do full dome projection if you have the money. The dome to project on costs a bit too In Fact with a suitable graphic card the OFP engine can probably do full spherical display. walker 0 Posted December 27, 2005 Hi all Just to say I already run the OFP engine in widescreen on my laptop. As I keep saying the OFP engine has always been wide screen enabled. In fact as far as I can tell the OFP engine has unlimited FOV. In other words bigger than any screen you are ever likely to own. advocatexxx 0 Posted January 6, 2006 Hi all Just to say I already run the OFP engine in widescreen on my laptop. As I keep saying the OFP engine has always been wide screen enabled. i have read the avon lady's article, however, changing the field of view is not related to the aspect ratio in which the game renders. i have a widescreen monitor (16:10 ratio), and while operation flashpoint offers me the option of using a widescreen resolution (1920x1200 in this case), it does not actually change the aspect ratio, it merely stretches the format horizontally. so what i'm left with are vehicles that look "fat", with their wheels elongated (much like eggs), etc. games like half-life 2 do in fact offer wide-screen support. in their video options, one is given a chance to change the aspect ratio from the common 4:3, to a 16:10. i believe this is what the original poster was referring to. i for one would also appreciate widescreen support in ArmA. suma 8 Posted January 6, 2006 i have read the avon lady's article, however, changing the field of view is not related to the aspect ratio in which the game renders. You change aspect ratio by chaning fov to different value in horizontal / vertical direction. To use widescreen you usualy leave the fovTop as it is and change fovLeft only. You might also want to limit 2D rendering area to make sure 2D items aspect is still correct. For this you can use uiTopLeftX and uiBottomRightX values. advocatexxx 0 Posted January 6, 2006 hey thanks! that's quite a neat trick. i've had to toy around with uiTopLeftX and uiBottomRightX values to see how exactly they work. one thing i've noticed is that the iron sights don't seem to respond to these changes, as it still appear elongated horizontally (screenshot #2). is there anything that can be done about this? here are the screenshots, rendered in 16:10 ratio. Metal Heart 0 Posted January 6, 2006 I'd guess you'd need iron sights made for widescreen. Since they're just 2d pictures it shouldn't be too much work to mod but if you play MP on public servers it could be a problem. On the screen shot, squished sights don't look so bad that I'd go through the trouble though.
metalchris 0 Posted January 7, 2006 ironsight are just overlays over the normal screen , so as metalheart said you need special 16:10 ironsights. of course , if arma suprises us with 3d ironsights , like DoD:Source it will do fine.
Eda Mrcoch 0 Posted January 7, 2006 IIRC they're not overlays, but simple p3d models with texture.
Metal Heart 0 Posted January 7, 2006 If they were models wouldn't they be scaled just like everything else?
