Extreme Insertion?

Ok first off ,get your mind out of the gutter (joke) tounge2.gif

My problem.

I'm trying to drop a H.A.L.O unit at high altitude on an island thats crawling with anti-air of all kinds. I've used many different kinds of black op aircraft. But they stir up the hornets nest after I jump ,then get shot down.

My question ,would a F-117 work for a covert drop? Has anyone else thought of / or try this? Is it plausible, or is it to Clancy-ish smile_o.gif

Would a drop pod be needed in place of a bomb?

Mapfact's DC-3:s could work... they're not exactly too 'modern' or 'tactical' but at least they look cool!

I'm drifting into editing now, but...

Why don't you setCaptive the aircraft to simulate the stealth abilities? If it's a SP mission and the plane is friendly to the players side this seems to be the best solution. Then you can chose the addon you prefer.

why do you need aircraft? True HALO jumps were designed to get soldiers into enemy territory by stand-off means. From leaving the aircraft it is possible to jump from 12mile up and "fly" 16+ miles before landing. My old man would tell me, when he did them they would be around 12mile up, "fly" 16 or so miles (towards target area), ditch about 10-20mile from the coast pick up pre-arraged transport(usually personal dive packs now mini-sub- cant remeber name of them) then procced to shore underwater. HALO jumps over land would only happen if air superiority was established and or no SAM activity in the area.

How about using civilian planes, cause to get that close irl they would act like a civillian traffic following flight plan that would take them close enough without alerting anyone. I read somewhere the other day some spec ops during nam were getting into the north by jumping out of the BUFFs on strike missions crazy_o.gif

You are actually talking about HAHO, High Altitude High Opening, jump. A HALO is a High Altitude Low Opening jump. In a HAHO, you can drift to the target zone like you described.

use aircraft that you wish and just put a civilian pilot in the seat and your done! wink_o.gif

Yes, if you are transported by a civilian pilot the enemy won't engage the plane. Done that many times and allways work.

F117? No, not likely.

Use the SetCaptive True command. Yes, it would be the best option if you want a plane.

If not just have the guy start the mission in freefall from really high up and then open the chute low if you want a HALO jump or really high if you want a HAHO jump.

HALO stands for High Altitude Low Opening. Most people know about this. It's used when you want to get a team on the ground fast from really high up. If your civilain airliner is allowed in the airspace you want to jump from, then that's what you'd use.

If you're jumping cross border or from outside allowed airspace then you want HAHO. High Altitude High Opening.

Like FA-MAS F1 said you can open high and then float down using your steerable chute. HAHO jumpers can be in the air for a couple of hours and travel 40+ miles before they touch down.

A team will jump and then form a stack with the bottom jumper navigating to the ground.

My dad served 8 years as a ground engineer on C130s and tells of a time he was training jumpers from Hereford. They dropped a guy over california and his pack hit him in the chin and knocked him out after he deployed his chute. He landed in Mexico.

I'll go with the civi aircraft. Might try to find a lear jet, or an ofp equivalent. Still ,I wouldn't doubt it if solid snake uses the F-117 method in a future game biggrin_o.gif

So far Andy lee's HALO gear works best, that is when I'm dropped over the target. Philcommandos parachute gear gets me to ground sometimes ,but the jumper might not have clean underwear when he lands smile_o.gif Although it makes for a pretty light show.
