ACES_KEVIN 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Id definitely think it should encorporate some sort of swimming possibility. Preferably above and under water options. Shallow water sections that its possible to drive though in a jeep would be neat as well...
meyamoti 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Can soldiers swim with alot of gear? Not sure I'm just thinking maybe somebody could answer this for me. But shallow water for fording would be a nice addition, set a tank up with a fording kit and everyones screwed lol.
LoTekK 0 Posted December 19, 2005 Can soldiers swim with alot of gear? Not sure I'm just thinking maybe somebody could answer this for me. I don't know about other forces, but in Singapore we never "swam" with gear. River crossing ops were done with the aid of guide ropes setup by the advance crossing party (who typically crossed in rubber raider craft if available), and flotation vests. River crossing ops capability would be a nice addition. And anyone who's ever had to swim with fatigues on knows it's a huge pain in the ass, and incredibly tiring. philcommando 0 Posted December 19, 2005 yup, they swim. Even in river crossings...they sure would need someone to swim across the river to tie the guide ropes first...hehe..though they would strip to their briefs and be covered by scouts while they swim half naked across to the other side. In other cases, thats what the rainjackets or groundsheets are for..to wrap up yer heavy equipment, including LRRP equipment, packs and all and waterproof it tightly, then dump into the river and all that heavy stuff will float, same theory as a 1000 ton ship. Once the stuff floats, place yer rifle on top of the waterproofed pack and kick/swim yer way across the river...whether its just 3meters to the other side or 300m if it means a shorter route to an objective. Real soldiering aint fun, isnt it?

"You better make sure your %$^ equipment %$^#@ floats, cadet! Coz guess who's going to be diving under all that crud in the water to retrieve his equipment if it sinks? Not me!"
