These are beta right?

9000 to 11000+ polys and 1 lod?

The modeling and texturing is very nice... very nice, but 1 lod?

Forgive me, but that seems a bit lazy don't you think? I mean jpg textures and that many polys with no lods?huh.gif

Why?huh.gif with 2-3 lods per model these would be amazing, but as they are, they are nice, but very... self serving.

1st lod is very nice though, just add more.

edit1

OK, few more things. Your using all black hi res jpgs. Why? It's all black!!! There is NO reason to use hi res jpgs for all black textures with very little detail. It's just overkill. It really is. Also since you are using 11000 polys AND using all black textures, all those polys are going to waste. less than a 1/4 of the polys are noticeable, yet affect playability. It's a nice addon, but like the BMI all black units, it's nice, but waaaaay overdone for a realtime engine. You just don't need all those polys plus jpg textures for a unit that is all black.

You did a nice job. Very impressive, probably the cleanest modeling for an avatar I've seen, but seriously it's overkill.

edit 2 This may not sound very constructive, but I feel that you really could optimize them for playability rather than extreme detail.

I agree with williec. Could you maybe release a fixed version?

Good work! smile_o.gif

+ over 2g of textures / models. 3 years working with a few other people. Numerous projects which will never see daylight. I figured what the hell. As good as it gets. Consider it a final release. Can't be p***ed for the time to do it now.

Quote[/b] ]but we didnt get it all tidyed up till now

I cannot stop to stress the importance of proper lods. This fact is being overlooked so much, but it is what makes or breaks an addon. After the first few minutes ingame, people will start to look less to pretty textures or great models, but more to what it can actually do for them ingame, playability.

These models (and textures), how ever nice they are, do not make good material for any substantial firefight, because there are no good lods. It doesn't matter how much poly's you put into a model, just as long as you have good follow-up lods, then it is all acceptable (until you hit the OFP max) thumbs-up.gif

Further information about the importance of lods

P.S. This is a general message for all addonmakers (some who already know the importance of lods, and the ones who don't), not just the makers of this pack wink_o.gif

P.P.S. Jpg textures are not nice (except for test versions), certainly when the fabric you are texturing is as simple as pure black tounge2.gif

*Could add a whole lot of his own stuff to add to Corkey's lost projects*

Meh this is a lost battle, it's not just myself over the years who have stressed to DS about cutting down on the number of polys, using textures to do detail instead of modelling it on ect, DSA will do what they will do, regardless of what anyone says.

If that gives us addons which will make a mission unplayable through lag after only a few of these units are placed down, too bad icon_rolleyes.gif

Talking about all my deficiencies and your great personal crusade against some one who feels abit differently about something is a really impressive site. But don't worry, my soul is so dark and dry I just love to be beaten, and given negative attention.

For the record after 3 years of working on this kinda thing I never knew about .pac / .paa files. I didn't know what LOD's were. Really I never knew anything, except how to flame bait. Which, if anyone has failed to notice, this entire release was. It's working beautifully too because I'm getting all kinds of negative attention that I crave. So keep feeding me I like it!

This is what I live for...

P***ing people off!

So I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy the fire works for the few days I still have net connectivity

Man, that's some attitude you have there, especially after most people come in here and comment on how nice the work is, and that all you would need to do is add some lods and make the textures more engine friendly. And do you really think that after working in the OFP engine for 3 years we believe you didn't know what an lod was or paa/pac textures? I find that hard to believe.

Again, I'll reiterate everything said above... your work is nice, just unifinished.

So people trying to help you improve your addons are in fact flaming you? Giving constructive criticism is considered flaming?
