I played ofp2 last night and it was amazing

First thing I did was play a 2 player coop LAN match with my friend and it was this small forest pit arena (awesome near real life gfx) and, we were watching the enemy come towards us and I saw 3 east troops (just like the ofp1 ones) and they were pushing their bikes along with 1 wheel not spotted us yet so we lay hidden, then they did spot us and we started shootin at em it was weird cos we had to wait till the reticle went smaller just like some games etc, and so we split up on the map and dived for cover I leaped in some sand and i noticed on my camo clothing there were bits of sand stuck to it amazing stuff!...THEN i woke up banghead.gif yes it was a dream! crazy_o.gif but i had that dream only cos i was thinkin of ofp2 all day the day before etc,

The point of this thread was to point out the cool ideas from my dream I shall list them:

1: sand (or mud) stained on camo when u crawl sounds good

2: when u look at map u see your hands reach pocket and quickly open it up (i can extend this what would be so cool say u are looking at the map and u are under fire theres a chance u would see a stray bullet rip through your map! biggrin_o.gif so if u have a marker obkective and the bullet tends to land there u wont know the whereabouts of the objective as its been shot and ripped, also if u survive a heli crash eg ur map could possibly be burned etc so u miss parts of it tounge2.gif this also applys for compass and watch but if u trip up or something they could crack or break smile_o.gif

so tell me what you think of these ideas ppl i dont think there that bad crazy_o.gif

The mud/sand thing, I think it's doable. Even in the current engine I think a mod could pull it off. But for the map thing, that's sort of playability vs realism thing. Do you really want to have to go through another whole animation every time you need to check the map? Would that impede gameplay? Etc etc.

And don't spam Capo.

Hehe, I like the map idea.  It would be frustratingly fun to get it shot up, lose it (or shoot it outta the hands of an opponent in MP pistols.gif  ).  It would be like in Band of Brothers, where half of everybody lost something after deployment and had to scrounge/borrow.  The dirt getting on the uniform (and map) is always a neat idea.  'Spray' the pixel pattern onto a blend map for the unit. Would be another realistic addition like the fuzz and lint on the binoculars.

As for the animation, could there be one for 'drop everything and go for the gun'?  Two reasons:

1- If an enemy pops out right in front of you, you are not going to fold up everything (or sling your LAW), and unsling your gun - You're going to drop whatever's in your hands that won't kill him/her, chuck your weapon off your shoulder and try to hose them down (ok. I would.  huh.gif )

2-In a protracted, no mission-continuous operation type game like this, it would be a bit more immersion to have your adrenalin up after such an event and have the chance to forget the map, or your AT, or a 'pack of smokes mod' for that matter, and again have to go back to get, replace or borrow it.

I need a few of those dreams.

Anyway, the crawling-and-getting-covered-in-sand/mud is good idea, also if it's raining, and your crawling about, your uniform soaks up the water, and makes you move slower (Ghost Recon claimed to do this, but I never saw any evidence of it, I only recall once walking though a river in the game, and it made no difference)

Not sure about tripping up in a game, but getting shot in certain places which would screw the compass is resonable (Though it'd be extremely unlikely).

Messing up uniforms (and same applys to vehicles) is an interestind idea.

The pulling out map is okay, but I think the OFP way of doing it is perfect, although it would be nice for the map to fit in with the time (In dark, open the map and you go blind as it's so white tounge2.gif)

Althought this could be moded in, or out. If the map can be applied to an object, like the Render-Target camera/object in Half-Life 2 (in Garrys Mod, you can put an object, and it's view is rendered to an object). This could be done for the map, so you could show the map on an object, and then with an animation, move the arm infront of the player's face, so they can look at the map tounge2.gif

It's possible in OFP acctualy, just the texture quality might be a bit low, and playing the right anim according to the unit's stance is quite hard.. Still possible none the less tounge2.gif

The map idea.... as long as you don't have to remember to select it before every mission... I can imagine myself losing it every two seconds. Very good idea though, unleas you have a PDU or GPS, but even then it could get damaged, or if it isn't waterproof it could fizzle out.
