Any chance to see improved lightning in AA?

The lightning effects in OFP was (and some still is) quite impressive for it's time but there has always been a few things that "irks" me and still does...

First of all it's the ugly corona star effect on the lights and also shine thru terrain (probably related to below issue).

Second is the super effective street lamps that lights up a whole block each!

Third but not least I'm really really hoping that they include working searchlight/s object/s this time around (I mean tiltable etc.).

I fully understand that this was probably part of BIS optimizing OFP for that times hardware etc. but since AA will be for DX 9.0c I'm hoping for some improvements in the lightning effects area.

BTW: As an workaround I'm currently using Lesters AEF Reallights 2.0 and turn OFF all the default BIS streetlamps and that improves things alot, much more atmosphere (sp?) I can tell you.

So if you want much more immersive night missions in current OFP I recommend you to try it out (note there are some side effects like flickering when using AEF Reallights so it's not perfect)!

Any real info or thoughts about this?

I'm pretty sure they have tried fixing this and they will release more info about the game later on,

maybe a movie or something wink_o.gif

Well, judging by the screenshots ArmA will have real-time shadows from every object. So maybe that means that did change whole lighting system.

Maybe I'm all blind but I haven't seen any HQ screenshots yet, the one I've seen was small and quite fuzzy one... You have a link?

in this picture you can definatly see the improved lighting. Go back to this scene in the original game and just look at the difference! WoW

The only thing that bugs me about this picture is that they seem to have turned off the shadows in it, as neither the hat is dropping a shadow on the face nor the soldiers on the ammo crate . . .

With just the lighting alone being changed, its gonna change Mp games alot. No more looking for the white face running through the trees now. Sun position will play a huge role in how you set up your attacks.

I can see that some things like shadows changed but the screenshots doesn't show any real light sources like streetlamps etc. Maybe it's just me but they doesn't tell that much about how the lightning will change in AA...

I think for ArmA not to take advantage of NVIDIA's Shader Model 3.0 and ATi's 2.0 variant would be surprising and a little disappointing given that they would be well within the boundaries of the engine and would improve the title extremely well visually. But, time will tell. I'm just about to pre-ordered Flashpoint 2 and ArmA. whistle.gif
