Commands: getPos vs. position !

Recommended Posts

Bonjour fellas.

As I'm currently writing a new scripting reference for OFP which will have a complete list of commands, lots of additional information about the commands, a new, user-friendly layout and much more, I stumbled across the question wether to favor the getXXX commands or their equivalents without get.

That is:

getPos vs. position

getDir vs. direction

getDammage vs. damage

I just wanted to ask since I'll write down a description for one of the both and just refer to it in the other one, which will get new-comers to prefer one over the other.

So, please scripters, vote which version you personally prefer and maybe post a comment or another.

Thanks for your help!

I had no idea. I vote for the "gets" cause from what I've heard its more well known. rock.gif

I prefer "get", because it naturally compliments the "set" commands, making them easier for me to remember.

getdammage -> setdammage (too bad about the spelling...)

getpos -> setpos

and so on. I get so used to this system, that I often try to use commands that don't exist! So I try to use commands like "getvelocity" (to compliment 'setvelocity'), "getcombatmode", and others. If it were up to me, I would have all commands fall into get/set pairs, whenever possible. It would make things much simpler, I think.

I'm curious about this project of yours though. Any more info about it? Or a demo? Or a release date?

i can tell you that his project is really worth to wait for it!

btw, you already can use damage/getDamage/setDamage, only the EH "dammaged" has not been fixed.

just use the commands w/o the get, it fits everywhere, you can't mix it up. you have it all in pairs wink_o.gif
