OFp is now off my harddrive

Recommended Posts

Good riddance... NOT

Ok, so my addons had gotten way out of hand, I could barely run the game, and I always got errors.

I'm now in the process of reinstalling, and plan on getting the following right away

Y2K3

FDF

CSLA II

Now, is there a list of the addons that come with theses, so I wont say, download BAS choppers twice, like I did a couple times before. Also, how do you guys keep your addons straight? Any tips to keep from falling into this pithole again?

EDIT: Oh yeah, a patch briefing would be helpful too.

Thanks,

Tom

trust me, it is not worth the effort of tracking down each individual addon for mods like Y2k3; just d/l the whole pack and keep each one in a seperate mod folder.

mod folders:

I had a pile of shortcuts for my different mods until I found out about Kegetys' OFP Launcher, an absolute must for anyone with lots of mods:

So, if I download Y2K3, it creates a whole separate folder, right? and in there it has its own addons folder, right? so, with the normal Y2K3 download, can I make separate folders for all the mods that come with it? will I have to do that by moving them after install? and these separate folders just go under \addons right?

Sorry for all the questions, Im just trying to save myself from all the trouble I got into before.

Thanks

Try to find Kegety's site on google. He has this great application for accessing mod folders and keeping things organized. Indispensable.

Ok, lets say I want to be able to use some of the addon units in FDF at the same time as using some Y2K3 units, is there a way that I can get one of those .exe's to use both addon folders, so that I dont have to copy all the addons I want to share between each conversion's addon folder?

There are a couple threads for people just reinstalling or have just bought the game. Im to lazy to look it up right now, its probably in the general forum. It has all the stuff you need to get on your feet addon wize unclesam.gif

My question was more aimed at the fact that he has all those mod folders with an @ infront of them. But a quick trip to the avon lady's page cleared that up, thank you guys for your help.

One(hopefully) more question:

I think this may be the same as my last, but here goes: lets say I wanna run default OFP with the RHS tanks. One version of the RHS tanks are in Y2K3, can I run the normal config, but still use those tanks? Will I need to move addons? Copy/Paste, or just download the latest version and make an @ mod folder?

Again, thank you guys so much, this is making it much easier to keep it all straight.

Do you want to have RHS tanks replace their default counterparts? (ie do you want all BIS T72s in missions replaced by RHS T72s?) That would require using a special config that replaces the units (i don't have Y2k3 so idk if it does that, I think it does though). In this case I would make an @RHS folder if I were you, though you would probably have to make the custom config yourself, which looks like a pain in the butt (i've never tried it myself).

If you just want the tanks available to use in the mission editor or in a mission that specifically uses RHS tanks, then I would suggest just making an @RHS folder.

very important is to keep in mind:

you can't run more modfolders with different config's; that means you will never will get run f.e. CSLA with FDF or Y2K3 with another modfolder which has his own config

in a BIN folder;

ECP_Addons.jpg

imho OFP is using the first config in the commmand line

f.e. finmod isn't in the modfolder but can be combined with folders in the mod folder

f.e. .... -nospash -nomap =finmod;mod\new2

General = general topics strictly related to Opf out of the box.

I'm pretty sure that by doing some legwork such questions can be answered by yourself.

.pablo. please don't hotlink images over 100kb, you've been around long enough to know that.
