yea, well its alot sexier that this ugly piece of shit the army decided to buy from the brits and italians, the EH101. can't understandy why the hell they went for it, we have more than enough perfectly good medium lift choppers in our inventory that can haul even more than the EH101.

the EH101 can do more things the older medium lift helicopters can't, things like electronic warfare. its not "a piece of shit" wink_o.gifsmile_o.gif

no it can't. the CH-47 was the army's medium lift work horse for decades and it still can carry a lot more passengers and cargo then the EH-101. its had so many upgrades over the years, it probaly has all the current technology.

can a CH-47 be fitted from a troope carrier to a early airbourne warning in 30 minutes? no the EH101 can. the fact is the EH101 can carry the same amount a seaking or a seaknight could, yet it has the speed and mobility of the lynx. it can also deployed on to frigates and destoyers unlike the seaking and chinook, granted it can't carry the same as the chinook, thats why its not replacing it, its replacing the puma and the seaking wink_o.gif

Should've got couple of fighter planes instead....

100% agree.

Funny thing is, the kiwi's in a war scenario, would have to rely on Nuclear Powered U.S. carriers for almost all their aerial protection.

And thanks to the New Zealand Nuclear Free Zone, Disarmament, and Arms Control Act..... they're pretty much prohibited from docking port.

Bad relations shouldn't be relied upon when it comes to national defence! wink_o.gif

Quote[/b] ]The Government has decided on new helicopters to replace the Air Force’s ageing Iroquois choppers.

It expects to pay between $400 million to $550 million .

Whoa.....look out! A budget for four, maybe five choppers! tounge_o.gifcrazy_o.gif

Well it looks like they are planning to build US Air Base in New Zealand. So i guess that's a reasonable option....

You're not serious? The NZ public would never let a US airbase be built here... Can you post a link to this info please. Thanks Antichrist smile_o.gif

I believe we are buying 10 NH-90's.

THe EH-101 was never considered because it is far too big. The requirements to replace the UH-1 were very demanding and tight. The NH-90 was the only option IMO smile_o.gif

The sioux replacement is likely to be used Fennec choppers from singapore.

I don't think there is a link to it anywhere. I overheard it walking past TV. Never paid much attention. I think it was either 3 News or Campbell Live. About 4 days ago or so....

There is no tactical, or strategic advantage to basing US aircraft in NZ. Australia, perhaps, but not NZ. And Singapore and Thailand are even better choices than Aus/NZ.

I don't know. They might want to attack Antarctica next. Found some WMD over there or oil......
