Victor_S. 0 Posted March 28, 2005 Since yesterday my monitor has been having a wierd problem. I just turns a purple shade like i put a filter on. It stays like this for a few seconds or a few minutes and then changes back to the normal colors. Ive tried just about everything wiith no luck. It started after we installed a new printer so im thinking that is the problem but ive already taken off the printer and deleted it from my controll panel. Any suggestions on what the problem could be.
nSe7eN 0 Posted March 28, 2005 Make sure you have the latest drivers from your video card manufacture, the latest DirectX installed and no conflicts between your devices, or any application that involved! Also check your video card fan if its using one and if it’s working and if your video card stable (on the motherboard), though none proper drivers usually the reason! I experienced the same problem once, I removed my video card then placed it again, also removed the fan o.O it works perfectly now! Or maybe it’s the monitor! Hope those mumbling thoughts helps! Victor_S. 0 Posted March 28, 2005 Ill try that though Ive had this computer for a year now and nothing like this has happened before.
Victor_S. 0 Posted March 28, 2005 It didn't work does anyone else have any kind of suggestions. Ill try anything.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted March 28, 2005 make sure no electrical device is lying directly next to your screen (e.g. printer). When I put my soundsystem next to my screen it starts to do strange things. Same with my mobile!
Gadger 0 Posted March 28, 2005 Make sure you have no wireless equipment (routers, mobile phones, FM/AM radio's) switched on near the monitor (in the immediate vicinity) They can produce weird effects on monitors/tv screens. For instance I'm placing a simple battery operated radio above my monitor now and there is a dull green glow in the top third of it. edit: 7 minutes too late. mr burns 132 Posted March 28, 2005 if your monitors vga cable can be unplugged be sure that it is properly plugged in.
Victor_S. 0 Posted March 29, 2005 Ill move all the electronic devices away and when it turned purple again i unpluged the cable from my graphics card and pluged it back in and the purple went away. It hasnt come back yet so im hoping that did the trick.
blackdog~ 0 Posted March 29, 2005 I had the same problem a while ago, and the problem was that one of the pins on my monitor cables was bent. Bent it back and it was fixed.
Victor_S. 0 Posted March 29, 2005 Ok im about to scream. Ive tried everything. Though i think i might have found the problem. After reading what blackdog said about his monitor cable being broken i unscrewed the little pins holding the cord onto my graphics card and i kind of adjusted it up and down. when i pushed it up my screen went from a shight shade of purple to a deep blue. I tried to adjust it but i cant seem to get it right. its back to its shade of purple....oh wait back to normal for a little while. So is the problem where my graphics card attaches to the cable which goes to my monitor?
Sniper_Panther 0 Posted March 29, 2005 Don't screw in the little screws?
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted March 29, 2005 very important now, dont get choleric as I usually do. I tend to break things in anger when they still can get fixed. Watch your hands, control your breathing and remember that agressions dont solve anything!
Balschoiw 0 Posted March 29, 2005 I guess it´s either the monitor cable itself or the plug. Check the pins at the VGA plug properly. If one is bent out of position there will be signal issues. Also, was the VGA under stress ? Have you rolled over with your chair for example ? Is the GFX card itself properly plugged onto the mainboard ? Check that. My bets go on a bent pin or a broken VGA cable. I once bought a 21´´ monitor on Ebay wich was said to be broken. By the error description I guessed it was a bent or broken pin in the plug that made it broken. I got it for 20 Euro and only needed to carefully bend back the pin into position. That provided me with a 2 year old 21´´ monitor for 20 bucks.
theavonlady 2 Posted March 29, 2005 Maybe your monitor is low on ink?
Cpt. FrostBite 0 Posted March 29, 2005 Make sure you aren't drunk when watching your monitor  IF that doesn't do it, than look at how old your monitor is and if it's old, get a new one. Monitors don't last forever so it may just be broke. Normal CRT monitors are very cheap these days. @Balschoiw I WANT MY MONITOR BACK!!
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted March 29, 2005 good monitors dont become cheap. A good  21' screen still costs 540 Euro. That is not much for a screen but still it is a significant amount! But from my own experience I can say that the colors are still better and the screen is nowadays basically flat. No need to go with the flatscreen fashion! Worth buying are basically only 2 right now that would be worth buying... the rest still is overpriced. Iiyama Vision Master Pro 513 = 540 Euro Samsung 1100DF = 470 €
nSe7eN 0 Posted March 29, 2005 It didn't work does anyone else have any kind of suggestions. Ill try anything. If you really checked if you have the latest drivers (compatible with your video card and system and supported by your Os and certified), the same for your motherboard drivers, and also the latest directX installed (and trying all the diagnosing tests), also any devices conflicting issues need to be solved, plus trying to remove your video card from your motherboard then placing it again to make sure its stable and checking the fans during that to see if your video card heat temperature is causing this or something else, and also uninstalling and reinstalling your monitor inf files incase its corrupted, and in the end your bios settings and configurations! Sorry if that’s looks funny, but I hope one of those tests and suggestions helps you! If you checked all that, then I think its one of your motherboard buses or wires or the monitor cable is unable to deliver the data efficiently or properly, or maybe electric or magnetic field around your monitor as Albert suggested. If you screwed the pins then you need a new monitor unless you can replace it if that supported!
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted March 29, 2005 I believe what bals said. Either a cable is damaged or the connection to the screen is not perfect. Or the screen is simply getting old I dont believe it is a software or graphic card problem. That is rather unlikely since the monitor is changing its color independant from what software is running. nSe7eN 0 Posted March 29, 2005 If that was really the problem cool he can just get a new monitors or monitor cable and that’s it, a software issue could cause that too Albert! That if the pc still there and not on the neighbor’s Backyard!
shadow 6 Posted March 29, 2005 I suggest you buy a new VGA-cable and try that. It could be a connection-issue either in socket in the monitor, graphics-card or somewhere on the cable. Definitely not SW-based when it changes when you handle the cable. Avon, if you're not helping then don't spam either.
Victor_S. 0 Posted March 29, 2005 Im guessing the culprit is the VGA cable. My computer and monitor are only 1 year old so I dont think that it's that. I do have an off brand monitor though ( view sonic) but I dont think it is my monitor. I might try hooking up my brothers monitor to see if it helps. I have all the latest drivers and updates. I checked my fans and my graphics card tells me what temp its at (Radeon 9600 XT). Ty for all you replys, I hope I dont have to get a new monitor
Victor_S. 0 Posted March 30, 2005 Well Im just going to have to get a new monitor. I tested my brothers and it works fine. Ive tried adjusting those stupid pins in the cord for hours and it has had no effect. @Albert Schweizer- I know what you mean about getting angry. I about put a hole im my wall with a screw driver after opening my case
Sniper_Panther 0 Posted March 30, 2005 Make sure you're graphics card isn't screwed in too hard.
Victor_S. 0 Posted March 30, 2005 Ive tried. Ive tried everything. I unscrewed it and just bareley plugged it in, I adjusted it every way possible. I think its just because its not a very good monitor
