Placebo 29 Posted March 4, 2005 madmanslegend spamming and especially spamming in threads where someone is looking for help is not acceptable on these forums, please don't do it again. breaker44 usually when I get that error it's because either my gfx card drivers or my Directx install is messed up (often when you install new graphics drivers you have to reinstall DirectX afterwards), try running the directx tests and see if they work ok. Also try searching for "cannot create 3d device" often reported error on these forums.

breaker44 0 Posted March 4, 2005 It's alright, Placebo, he was adding some...levity to the situation. I fixed this problem, now I have the rainbow texture problem. Looks like liberace made my game or something. -BreakerOut

breaker44 0 Posted March 5, 2005 NVidia. Can you help me with the rainbow graphics? -BreakerOut
benu 1 Posted March 6, 2005 I got those once when i made a test mission for terrain detail and viewdistance. When setting both to insane values i got those rainbow colors. Maybe i have a screenshot of that somewhere... Open your Users\Username\UserInfo.cfg (its a textfile so notepad should do for opening it) and change the following two values: viewDistance=900.000000; terrainGrid=25.000000;

USAF_Rigger 0 Posted April 11, 2005 I just recently reinstalled OFP after a year+ hiatus and began having the freeze, crash, the D3D error: cannot create 3D device, and then having to reboot to get directX working again. I read the Avon Lady's FAQ (Thanks AL) and searched through all the forums looking at the suggestions supplied. I tried the "-nomap" switch which delayed the problem for about 45 minutes until it started up again. I noticed it mostly when switching back and forth from scoped weapons, which may or may not pertain to the problem. I began playing with settings before I did a dreaded rollback on all the drivers. What remedied the problem for me was reducing the audio acceleration to the basic setting and making sure EAX and hardware acceleration was disabled in OFP. My system specs are: Win XP Pro Athlon 1500+XP ASUS A7V333 Motherboard 512MB RAM Geforce 3 ti200 128MB SoundBlaster Audigy 2 The Geforce 3 and Audigy 2 are on the latest drivers. Both are also sharing IRQ 16. I had to reduce the sound acceleration with both Hitman 2 and Hitman Contracts as well to get sound at all. The only thing I've noticed sound wise is a really light crackling every-so-often, which is better than going through the headache of rollbacks and not being able to play the game at all. Figured I'd share my findings since the remedies I've read mostly pertain to either fixing the graphics pipeline for graphics problem or focusing on the sound pipeline for sound problems. My money is on Creative and their lovely drivers.
wheres my rabbit ? 10 Posted April 12, 2005 couple of days ago i installed the newest nvidia drivers played a few games of flashpoint then got lock up for about 10 seconds during the game which then carried on as normal only to do same a few minutes later then CTD when i restarted OFP i got this same error and flashpoint would not run at all ..as there are a few thread about this i came on forums n tried evry suggestion people had and none of it worked . so i gave up and went to play LOTR middle earth thingy and that wouldn't run either giving a slightly different error along the same lines.. so i'm thinking something terrible.. after a restart LOTR ran ok . then next day went to run OFP and still wouldn't run giving same error so i unistalled nvidia and reinstalled the last version restarted and everything was A ok .. i told me friend wot had happened and he also said he had to unistall latest nvidia drivers as it had messed up eve online for him so i'm guessing the new nvidia drivers are just crap
honchoblack 2 Posted April 12, 2005 i second what whereismyrabbit? said, had the same experience with the latest Nvidea drivers
HotShot 0 Posted April 13, 2005 I also have the same problem as you 'wheres my rabbit', and also with a Nvidia card which i just got, and have the newest drivers. So for you, it was fixed by uninstalling the drivers you had installed (which were the newest?), and then re-downloading the newest drivers and installing, then it worked OK? EDIT: Or should i download the slightly older drivers from XFX site, and not install newest ones?
wheres my rabbit ? 10 Posted April 13, 2005 i reverted back to the previous version 66.
HotShot 0 Posted April 14, 2005 Thanks for the tip Wheresmyrabbit, it seems to have worked a treat. Played OFP last night for a while and no problems, other than after about an hour i went to alt+tab out and it locked up. I had alt+tabbed out earlier and it was fine, i guess OFP was just a bit bogged down now after a while running?? It doesn't really matter though, at least no freezes and crashes The whole system is running alittle quicker too, as before, after the new GFX card installed Outlook express was taking a while to start up too, but now that seems to have been fixed also. wheres my rabbit ? 10 Posted April 14, 2005 flashpoint has always been a bit crap for alt tabbing.although i rarely have problems with that now. just just keep your desktop res different from your game , but everyone knows that right ? it still occasionally just vanish tho instead of alt tabbing
juxie 0 Posted May 2, 2005 i reverted back to the previous version 66.93 does your Flashpoint.rpt shows some kind of ACCESS_VIOLATION at some memory address?
Sgt. Lars 0 Posted October 18, 2005 I just got around this Cannot Create 3D Device thing myself. I have a Geforce 3 and I'm using the 78.01 drivers. On the global driver settings I turned "Vertical Sync" to Off, and made sure the "Application Controlled" setting was off as well. Everything was fine thereafter.
