-)rStrangelove 0 Posted February 17, 2006 Never judge a book by its cover i say. The Unreal engine cannot be held responsible because most games look 'good/realistic' but in the end turn out to be simple arcade action shooters. R6: RavenShield looked fine and was quite realistic imo whereas R6:Lockdown looks a bit better but has no realism whatsoever.
Daniel 0 Posted February 18, 2006 I know what Jinef means. I don't like the feel of the Unreal engine. It has it's uses, but realistic is not a word I'd use to describe it.
EddyBoy 0 Posted February 18, 2006 Got it from GAME earlier. Love it, much better than RavenShield, AI in are blooming lethal, unlike in ravenshield they dont sit there idly waiting for you to come they run around the place hiding behind desks and blast away at ya. You dont get told how many rounds you got left in your mag which is fun but has already casught me out a couple of times. Only a few maps but you play it from 3 squads point of view.Training is pretty damned hard, got to clear a room in like 3 seconds or else you fail. Havnt had a chance to MP yet, bullying my mates to go get it so when I do ill give a few comments on that. If your into swat 4 and realism(realismish in swat4 case) then get this but if your more arcade then avoid like the plague as you;ll hate this.

People want to make truckloads of money, then people make games unrealistic, not the engines they're running on.

I once did something very wrong with OFP (or it was some old addon), anyway, i was able to run around and shooting where my crosshair was aiming with every handgun, without having to stop to aim. It gave a total different feel to the game. If they do it the other way around with this it may become very good! Â
EiZei 0 Posted February 23, 2006 Well, I have been playing the regiment for some time now and here's my opinion: + Pick-uppable weapons with cool iron sights and no crosshairs (in simulation mode) + Weapon effects + Levels and enemies (only one occasion with neonazis, yay?) + Enemies that are wounded and not restrained might get up later and fry your ass if you are not careful. + Proper RoE + The pacing, there's time limit - sort of. - Tad slow and ugly. - Friendly AI can't be controlled properly and they act retarded sometimes. - Only four operations (+ training) with three levels each. - Misc. bugs - The M60! Overall i'd say it's a poor man's military version of Swat 4. Not brilliant but still worth playing and pretty damn brutal too when you need to hurry and have no time to arrest the downed suspects. You don't even get punished for shooting wounded suspects and you can hit those annoying hostages with your fist if they start giving any shit. Don't mess with the SAS. shadow 6 Posted February 23, 2006 This game is all about what Letdown should have been IMO. This is Ravenshield on steroids. Its much more "raw" than RvS and a little faster pace. In sim-mode, like Ezei said; you have no crosshair, only ironsights, no ammo and no selector-switch indicator. The only indicators you have are the amount of mags left (in sim-mode). The training is the most original I've seen. Very nicely detailed. Its also something special when an old ex-SAS operative tell you the background story of the mission which he himself participated in (Embassy in Iran). Now I just need to be good at counting to 30 so I dont run out of ammo in the middle of a firefight  Also worth noting that all the missions are playable in 4-player coop. I have'nt tried that yet. JdB 151 Posted February 23, 2006 Now I just need to be good at counting to 30 so I dont run out of ammo in the middle of a firefight A good technique for that I learned in Swat 4. Shoot in 2 round bursts and count the bursts. When you reach 8 fired bursts change the mag whenever possible. Shooting in 2 round bursts requires some training, but I use the same technique in OFP with a high effectiveness. Alternatively you could do the ''double taps'', which is in effect the same thing, but then with the weapon on single instead of auto mode.
shadow 6 Posted February 28, 2006 Coop is amazing. Me and a friend got our asses handed to us the whole weekend. We managed to complete 3 or 4 missions but never satisfactory results (30-60 pts each). Finding an M60 really is useful in a coop-game. Supressive fire works. Most of the weapons are very well made except for the M4-sound. It sounds like the M230 chaingun in Apache vs Havoc. Those who liked RvS and want something new should pick up this game. I think its alot better in all aspects except weapons-selection (there is no selection) and planning (there is no planning). For those who are obsessed with eyecandy, this game delivers plenty (especially the metro and parliament maps).
EiZei 0 Posted February 28, 2006 Swat 4 expansion pack is out by the way.
JdB 151 Posted February 28, 2006 Too bad it was a big disappointment. A handfull of new equipment, some changes to the commandsystem and only 7 new missions. So lacking that it doesn't even deserve a thread of it's own
shadow 6 Posted February 28, 2006 That crap sure as hell does'nt deserve to be mentioned in this thread. You can dig up the old SWAT-thread if you want to discuss it.
Pathy 0 Posted March 3, 2006 I remember reading the Counterstrike blurb on the back of the box "enter the gritty world of counter terrorism" So i was dubious when i first saw this, but based on what i've heard so far, it seems to be fairly spot on.
